Before I start tearing down the engine where are common failures as far as oil loss goes?? I dont have oil puddling under the truck but I do have a constant diminishing oil amount in the engine. Places to start looking? Oil pressure goes down very slowly.

Engine is a 318. D150 1989.

TIA!

the biggest oil leaks on these trucks is the rear main seal and valve cover but usually those leave drips on the ground. if your not dripping it you are most likely burning it. have you done a compression or leak down test on all the cylinders? something you could try doing is running diesel 15w40 motor oil. it will help clean your engine out. i have seen about a 10-20 psi increase accross all the cylinders on 318 in my 81 since running it and the pressure readings got a lot more consistent. all are within 170-180psi.
