I had Bilstein 5100s installed and asked the installer to set them at 2.8(max). Can someone look at this pic and tell me if the shock is set at 2.8?

Wow that was fast. Thanks! For some reason I thought there should be one more ring showing below...

you shouldnt see that ring they sit on at all, they are deep in the perch. I installed mine a few months back so its still fresh in my memory.

Actually in looking deeper, can I only see they are on the 3rd landing ring? Its hard to tell from this picture now.

No you are at about 1.5 inches or so?

For reference look at the picture with green arrow, thats 2.8 height.

Sorry for misleading it.

Yeah it looks like they're set at 1.4" which would be the middle setting. There's two higher (2.1" and 2.8") higher than that yet. I'd be going back to them and getting them to redo that.

I'm looking to do mine soon, and really don't want to do it myself, but I've read too many stories about shops getting it wrong. And I've asked a few shops around me, and they look at me like I have two heads. So, I'm just going to do it myself, so that I know for sure it is right.

Really sucks. I dont have time to do this myself. The closest shop is 30 minutes away and they cant even get it right.

The saga continues...the shop claims that there are only 3 settings for the Bilstein 5100s and mine are at the highest setting. I am fairly sure they are wrong. Could they have put in a different part number?

There are 5 settings. There's also only one part number for the shock. Settings are stock, 0.7, 1.4, 2.1, and 2.8

Spoke with Bilstein. There are indeed 5 settings (no news to y'all). The correct part number is installed in my truck (it's the only 5100 that fits anyway).

These guys are full of crap. This is not some tiny garage...these guys are supposed to be pros. Now my only decision is do I make them rectify this at their expense and save money or not take a chance that they will screw it up and go somewhere else!

Hammer on the manager of the shop, show them its wrong, get it fixed. Have them prove you wrong and pull it apart. Then when the see it, take a soldering iron to his face.

When someone is so positive that theyre right (when theyre 100% wrong).. the ball is in your hands. Would be a great time to make a bet on steak dinner or a full refund.

After much discussion and sending of pictures via email, they sent me an email. "Long and short of it is, you were right, we were wrong"

They have agreed to fix free of charge.

One more note. Now that I see that I only got 1.4" lift the first time, if I max out the bils to 2.8 it will make my truck almost exactly level ( I measured it) . Probably ought to put 3/4" to 1" spacer in the rear no?

Yes well, they are not doing that part for free...

Did you pay for an alignment the first time they did it? If so, I'd tell them they're paying for it. Why should you have to pay for two alignments because they screwed up?

Sounded like you bought the Bilsteins from them? If so, that might be your leverage. The last thing a "reputable" shop wants is someone contacting their vendors.
