I have a Gibson SweptSide with less than 30k on it. I liked it better a few years ago. I guess I'm tired of it now.

The only bad thing I have heard about the Gibson Supertruck side exhausts is that since they are designed to sit slightly just under the rear of the cabs that fumes can be annoying...but then again, that could be from people running a rich fuel mixture...

I thinking about getting the delete kit from mufflex myself.... is that considered a straight pipe or no? Will it throw any kind of codes?

yeah, basically a straight pipe.......if it was a single exhaust. :D They use a Magnaflow Y Pipe and then mandrel bend it to fit right. NO codes whatsoever when I used it.

Thanks for all the help and info guys!! I really appreciate it. After listening to some sound clips and checking out some pricing looks like I am going to go with the Mufflex 14M system!

thanks again!

Also need to look into what they sound like when the MDS kicks in, some mufflers sound great when all 8 cyl are going but when the MDS kicks in and drops it down to 4 (? been a while since I had to think about that) they sound like crap. Not sure how far things have come though since I really only pay attention to the 05' year for parts for my truck.

MDS wasn't horrible with my delete pipe. These systems still keep their stock resonators, which GREATLY helps. BUT, I'm sure we'll peer pressure his ass into getting a Superchips for that beast (when its released for the 2011s) and he can say bye bye to MDS. Also, on the 4th gens you can set it in tow/haul - or put the "auto" in "5" and that eliminates MDS as well.

Ryan - thanks for the reminder! I think we all kinda forget about it.........I sure the hell did! :D

Just to show which of the mufflers flow better than the others (taken from another site):

The following is a compilation of some popular mufflers and their CFM rating. Basically, how good they "flow"...

Dodge Ram OEM: 285-355 depending on year and engine.

Walker PF29: 217
Thrush CVX: 260
Thrush Boss Turbo: 297
Gibson Superflow: 311
****** Super Competition: 320
Summit Turbo: 331
Flowtech Afterburner: 342
Summit Fully Welded: 343
Flowmaster 40: 352
Flowmaster 50: 362
Dynomax Super Turbo: 410
Cherry Bomb Pro: 470
Cherry Bomb Extreme: 500
Thrush Magnum Glasspack: 507
Cherry Bomb Glasspack: 510
Edelbrock RPM: 579
Cherry Bomb Vortex: 580
Edelbrock 304: 640
Dynomax Race Magnum: 711
Borla XR-1: 836
Dynomax Ultra Flow SS: 1000

It is important to note that without some engine modifications, too much flow can cause damage and actual decrease performance. It is generally accepted that the maximum rate you should ever try to achieve is 600 cfm on a stock to mildly modded truck, which is the rate air will flow thru a straight 3" diameter pipe.

I was unable to find any data on Magnaflows, if any body has some reliable data on them or any others not listed, PM them to me and I'll add them...

It can't.

But that doesn't tell the whole story. Too much restriction/back pressure and you lose hp. Too much flow and you lose torque. The trick is finding the right balance.

Yeah, I've noticed on my 2010 I have more "power" as it seems.......when the cutout is closed. And it feels like it has more in the low RPMs than when I ran the delete pipe.

Now.....when the cutout is open - I don't care about power, I just love the sound!

The cutout will give you more topend, but you will loose some lowend depending how your exhaust is setup. Mine runs quicker with the cutout closed under 60mph, and runs better with it open above that. So keep em closed while in the city to give you a little more tq and open at the track for a little more top end.

^that's exactly it.

A lot of guys feel more "power" around town with a muffler and/or closed cutout because of the constant need for torque during acceleration in daily driving. Little import cars don't need torque so they love those obnoxious fart cans.
