Can you set the cruise to be "ready" when you start the truck?

It's a small complaint, but I get annoyed having to turn the cruise control to the ready position before I can engage it every time I start the truck.

Does anyone know if you can set this to be "ready" every time?

i haven't seen any setting to do that. Maybe you can do it with the premium cluster and 8" radio? since you have more options on them

I haven't seen anything either.

Would be nice. I like it in my moms Tahoe.
But I've always driven Dodges so I'm used to it. Lol

Ya it would be nice I have having to turn it one every time I get in the truck. I don't even know why it has a on/off button when you have to hit a second button to engage it and cancel it anyway. Seems kind of useless.

I'm just the opposite I didn't like it that the silverado stayed on after it was shut off. I can understand why it would be a real pain in the ass to hit the cruise button as soon as you start it. Like your going to use cruise control pulling out of the driveway.

Staying on could potentially be a danger. What happens when you accidentally hit "resume".

Besides, how hard is it really to press the on/off button? LOL First world problems.

This is something that would drive me crazy if it actually did this. When I am hauling a light trailer like the ones we have at work I just put it in 6th to keep the MDS from activating I don't use the tow mode since the trailer isn't heavy enough and it won't let it shift all the way to 6th. On my 13 4x4 with 3.55's I found myself using it but a 2wd with 3.92's unless I have a loaded trailer it rows fine. When I had the MDS shut off in my 09 that had 3.92's I would just leave it in d and tow mode off and got great gas mileage.

I'm with you on this. I have lost count of how many times I stop for gas on a long tow and forget to turn the T/H back on and wonder why it feels weird. My truck has the ability to program up to 4 trailers, I wish you could pick which one would leave the T/H on whenever it is plugged in.

yes it would be nice but for now you just have to turn it on everytime you want to use the cruise control.

Same with Exhaust brake on Diesels. Park-Assist "off" is latching (stays in either state till you change it). I think TractionControl is too.

Years ago, on my 1998 Dakota, there was a post on some forums about installing a relay to turn O/D off at start up. I don't recall the specifics, but basically it tied into the wires to trick the PCM/ECU that the button had been pushed right after engine start.

It may not be possible to do that to these newer trucks because of the computer control... but if that's true, it's probably easier to hack and modify the software inside it.

I cannot see how that would be an issue. My wife's Honda Accord has a mechanical on/off button for cruise. IN is "ON".... and is the position it stays in, unless the guys at the car wash push it when wiping down the interior.

I was wondering the same thing, why does the cruise control need to be turned "on"? It would seem that in this age of fully electronically controlled drivetrains, the cruise could be on all the time and a person only need to press the "set" button.

This is the case with my wife's BMW. The cruise is never "off". I can just press set and a nifty little pointer scoots around the speedometer and rests at the chosen speed.

I believe it's a safety thing that you need to turn on the cruise. The idea here is that you are suppose to turn it on and off every time you use it. Just imagine you have it set at 70 on a highway then run into heavy traffic at 40. You accidentally bump it and the truck accelerates to get to 70. Would not be a good situation.

Automakers decide whether its on or can memory function of it on. My honda accord stores the on/off setting of CC but my new BMW i had to turn it on every time like the RAM does.

You're right. My Mazda stayed on too.

Wouldnt it be awesome if we had "user options" (like the illuminated approach) to "make cruise sticky" (or not)? Same for Tow/Haul and Exhaust Brake.
