If it helps, it is a 2017 power wagon. I will check and take pictures of connections tomorrow. It's still a little chilly outside here in MT.[emoji6]

PM's sent. Thanks for the assist Ronnie. I've got several Harnesses to make and I don't want to disappoint anyone. Being out of town for 3 weeks didn't help.

Hopefully he can trace out the 4 connectors and id exactly what segment he's missing. Also needs to id what Connector he has at the brake pedal, i315 or Inline-Body IP Connector?

I ohm'd the pins that match the empty slots 17-18-19. The run all the way to the tailgate. So it does look like the radio harness is all I need!

I agree Sir looks like all you need is a 3 wire harness from that connector to the back of the radios C -1 as follows :

17 to 31
18 to 32
19 to 33

That looks like this .
d11d75a8c9f6eeadc4dc887afa892ea0.png

Fantastic !

Just PM M2Mods and get in line for the harness to be built !

Remember that Mike & Mike with M2Mods are just two guys with the skills to build these harnesses for guys like you and I , they have regular jobs and a family life ....don't loose site of the fact we can not purchase these harnesses any where else .... and these two guys are not making any money on the sale of these harneses. ..... well very very litle money ( about 5 bucks an hour ) for their labor and knowledge. ... they are just [ GOOD PEOPLE ] helping g other good people here on the www.ramforum.com. !

Thanks for posting the pics !

When you get your back up cam working with the 3 wire harness , I hope you go show your service manager at your local dealership.... they need to know how these trucks electical systems work ..knowledge is worth its weight in diamonds !

Alright. I'm sure this has been covered. But as I'm on mobile it is very hard reading through 68 pages of posts... I have a 17 express. Has the uconnect 3.0 with hands free and the such. Just bought a 2016 uconnect 5.0 to swap so I can add the backup camera. Where do I need to go to find any parts? The camera and the harness to connect it? Where do I check to see if I have all the proper wires already so I can just swap the harness out for the camera harness.

Ok. So I'm trying to decided what all the jumble is. If my harness at the tailgate is fully populated in all 8 connectors then I shouldn't need to order the harness for the frame. Just the camera conversion. Am I correct? Never mind. Where can I find provisions to add the wire from the tailgate connector to the cab?

Don't know what you mean by "Provisions" but it looks like you have a 2017 Ram 1500 truck so you "shouldn't" have the short extension/wearout connector that the 2500's and up do at the tailgate connector to worry about. It sounds like you may also have the chassis harness going up to the left front wheel well c322 connector. If that's true, you may only need the 3 wire "CAB" harness to complete what you have. I hate not being able to lay it all out for you, but post 10 has links to the 4 connectors and pictures to verify what you do/do not have in your truck. Please take a look and verify the wiring at ALL 4 points either visually and/or ohm out with a meter (Preferred). And post pictures of the back of the 4 connectors so people can help: i550 tailgate, c322 LtFrt Wheel well, i315/Inline-Body (near brake pedal), and Radio C1.

Can anyone tell me what this spare connector is for ? can this be used for my tailgate back up camera connection to the radio?
No idea. Hard to tell from the picture exactly where it is? Might be for the rear park sense. Hopefully someone recognizes it.

You need to identify the Year and Model of your truck when asking these kinds of questions so members can help better (there can be differences).
Please see post 10 for references. Depending on what is already in your truck and by the time you purchase individual parts to add the backup camera, there may not be any benefit to getting a camera harness from me vs buying the full "Mopar Backup Camera Kit" to install which comes with everything you need.

PS: Got your PM, sorry to hear your dealer is a PiTa. It's common when looking at adding things. PLEASE, explain your exact issue here so myself and others can help you figure out what is going on. It will be much faster than waiting for only me to respond (I have a regular job plus a wait list of harness orders to build in my free time). Once we get some more details, we can steer you in the right direction and if needed one of us can setup a time to call.

Sorry provisions by harness with the pins already. And I traced it out to the cab harness. It's missing the 3 wire hookup into the cab and it looks like it's missing it to the radio as well

POST Pictures of what you have showing where the wires are missing in the connector cavities please. Yours should look similar to mine.

You will need to confirm whether or not you have the i315 (pins 18,19,20 on most 1500's) or INline-Body/IP connector (pins 17,18,19 on some 2500's) down by the brake pedal. Once you do, I recommend you ohm out the appropriate 3 camera wires from that connector back to the i550 tailgate connector (pins 1,4,5) to be sure. I'd hate for you to waste your time and money.

See attached.

The 4th picture is the chassis connector. How can I figure out what I have there? It doesn't open easily. Unless I can't figure it out.

Got it open... pain in the butt
Looks like a different connector than yours. Almost might have to go to the dealer because my handle for the tailgate doesn't have the same screw locations for the 16 cameras I'm seeing on eBay or other sites. Screws line up 90^ instead of the 180 that I saw online. will post radio connector when I go to swap to the 5.0.

Crazykid,
Not sure where that 4th connector is that you are showing, but yeah it's not the same. Is it behind the left front wheel's plastic liner by the driver's floor board?

From what I see there so far, you are missing the chassis and cab wiring for the backup camera. Which means that piecing it together is not a cost effective option unless you scavenge all the tailgate parts for cheap.

You are likely better off getting the full Mopar kit with all the wiring and camera parts.

Behind front driver tire attached to the truck frame. I traced it forward from the tailgate. It is under the driver door.

I'd say for cost effectiveness( based on your photo above ) I'd get the complete Mopar kit and just follow the directions .

Not sure on the 17 models , but for the 13 -16 the kit is about $275.00 from the dealer . You can find it cheeper elsewhere maybe $250 .
I'd recommend a dealer purchase and make a deal with the Svc mgr that if you purchase from his dealership (spending more money for the kit ) that he does the XAC code Flash for free !
This is what I did . The flash took the tech a total of 7 minutes , so don't agree to pay for an hour of labor ....

Hope this helps !

Ok this thread is big.......

Can't seem to find the proper part number to install a rear view cam on my '17 2500 powerwagon with a ra2 radio.

Also I will in the future upgrade my radio to a RA4/NAV will it still work?

Thanks

The back up cam works with the RA2 5.0" & both the RA3 & RA4 8.4 " Radios .

Go to post # 10 here to get the p/n of the backup cam kit for a radio display ....I know post 10 doesn't say 2017 models but you then should ask the past counter at your dealer and see I'd the p/n has changed . Then let us know here if it's the same p/n kit , just remember there are two kits one for a radio display and one for the mirror display .

Hope this helps !

And welcome to the forum Sir !
