Hello - I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 360ci 4x4 Automatic Trans w/4x4 floor stick.

I have No Spark and No fuel prime/run. The Fuel and Asd relays are Good and... when I jump the relays (87&30) I have 12 volts at coil/efi and fuel pump runs constantly. I have changed the distributor cap, cam sensor, crank sensor. I have tried unplugging crank sensor, cam sensor, tps, speed sensor and each O2 sensor while clearing the computer each time and still no response when you turn key to on at asd or fuel relays when key is turned on no clicking. there is 12volts at the relay and key.provides additional 12volt terminak so relays have proper power. Checked harness. and grounds and connector for vobvios problm. The check engine light comes on for a few seconds and goes out when you turn the key on. Using one scanner it had one asd code. It has good compression and only 120,000 miles.

what I haven't tried yet is disconnecting the trans to rule out an internal short to the shift solenoids. I also have not verified 5volt to TPS or map (?) But was planning that as my next shot.

me and a friend tested the wires from the pcm connectors and no open ground there that is not good. I am pretty sure it is not the PCM, or hoping its not... but I suspect a ground to the pcm or a chaffed wire. maybe a mouse got hungry and ate some wires .

I HAVE NO POWER AT THE "OXYGEN SSR" Fuse in the pdc (power distribution center) under the hood where relays are. Its. a 15amp. not sure if that's normal

Anyways i got it non running in a trade and need this truck for a driver its been sitting for weeks at a friends house 50miles away so i want to know what else to try on my third attempt.

I know this is a common worst case scenario electrical problems these trucks have but I can't seem to find any solutions I might have bypassed. I am a former Daimler Chrysler 5star Servie Manager. and ASE Mastertech/Auto Machinist so I have pretty much done everything I could except swap computer

Even though I can get 12volts to the coil by jumping the asd and fuel pump will run when i jump relay there is no spark at plugs and will not run BTW

I forgot

You could try changing the coil

I farted with mine the past summer. Some of the same symptoms. I checked, tested and cussed at stuff and it didn't help. I thought I had ENOUGH spark but after thinking about for a while....I think the coil was weak and not putting out enough spark. I got shocked by the old coil and assumed it was good.

Just a thought.

Its not the coil... the asd and fuel relays aren't. engaging. The problem is before the coil. No signal from pcm (its in shutdown mode due to faulty wiring/sensor or it has internal fault) . Also tried disconnecting coil but asd still would not engage and no fuel

the.Asd relay powers the coil. and the pcm sends ground pulse to coil (unless there is a short or bad ground) not getting signal to asd or fuel relay from pcm either.... which could mean an internal or external pcm wiring fault.

thats what I'm trying to figure out :internal or external

is the PCM in shut down mode or is the PCM bad?

(Is there a bad wire in computer or plugged external wire bad ?)
I
Its all the same question I have. We were able to pull a asd code from computer so... its communicating -i

is it "possible" it has something to do with Airbag System? The front bumper did take some ruffing up. I doubt it but how would I check for that shutting stuff down?without a scantool like a drb2or3?

Have you checked the engine fuse??? I believe there is one inside the cab in slot 9. I'm not near my truck or I would look real fast. But if I recall that fuse opperated the relays and what not.

Yesterday I checked for 5v at the TPS, crank , and cam sesnsors but found NO voltage - so I proceeded to the PCM connectors and found 12v at the 12v fused source (red/white C1) & 12v at keyed source (Light/green/black) & 12v at ASD (blue/yellow C3) and NOTHING at 5v source (out?)(C2 orange) coming out of PCM .... I had good grounds at Tan wires C1 #31-32So.... I pulled out the PCM because I assume with good power and grounds go to it and nothing coming out it must be fried . I couldn't communicate with obd link either .

Hopefully I can find a local 98 5.9 to try my computer out on or a cimputer to see if mine Will run while I look for the right computer for my truck .

I just hope that with a new PCM it will actually run and not be a waste if timeand $$$

I found the following in an old forum post. my last two digits are AF. is the following true for mine? Seems so (updated to AG)

The part number 50646347 to 50646347AG

All of these pcm's part num updated to this one number

05014152AA 56040564AA 56046347AA 56046347AB 56046347AC 56046347AD 56046347AE 56046347AF

*SO DOES THAT MEAN I CAN USE ANY ONE OF THE ABOVE PART NUMBERS FOR MY PCM REPLACEMENT?

You can use whichever part number was listed as the PCM for your year, make, model, engine. I believe at least one of the part numbers listed above was for a Jeep, that won't work in your truck.

Dodge loves to play part number games.

Well it makes it easier to find one in a junk yard or craigslist if I have all those to choose from

I was told I will have a CEL (check engine light) until I have the vin matched in the PCM at a dealer. Is that true?
