We've all had one.

I just got my Ram, so I haven't had any nightmares yet. Though I did use the wrong sized (too big) hole saw when I cut out a hole for my tweeters in my A pillar. But that's only a $60 mistake. I'm sure I have a more expensive screw up in my future.

What's yours?

My screw ups haven't costed me a hole lot of money but mostly time because of something stupid. Most recent one was replacing. My exhaust manifold (due to broken bolt) I lowered my y pipe and covered it with a bag so I wouldn't drop any bolts in there.... Guess what the bag got knocked off some how and I dropped a damn bolt in there. So I have a bolt sitting on top of my cat that for some reason I couldn't fish out with a magnet on a stick so I had to drop my whole y pipe and that basically entailed removeing my whole exhaust.. Cost me a good 2 hours.

Bought a new transmission jack that failed while installing the built transmission. Ended up tipping the whole thing over and dumping all the fluid onto the garage floor. Amazing thing is that I didn't damage the transmission internals but it did cost me a trans pan, new fluid, and filter.

My first '01 Ram Sport, I ported and polished the throttle body myself. Ended up grinding too much material out of it and making a hole in the side. Had to buy a new TB to replace it. Carefully ported/polished the new one without a problem. Only to cross-thread one of the bolts that holds it on, forcing me to re-drill and tap the hole in the intake... :suicide:

This is funny, I was just thinking about this today. My "B" pillar matte black decals that came from the factory on the truck (makes the front door windows and rear door windows appear continuous) are already starting to bubble. I was thinking, if it really bothered me, I'd just peel them off, mask of the area and spray some matte black paint. Then I started thinking this simple project was so simple, something would go horribly wrong. like the paint I would use would be incompatible and the factory paint starts peeling, etc. Unlikely, but for me it's always been the simple 5 minute fixes that go to pot.

in reality, the only thing I've done so far was when I was installing my sound processor. while I was taking the wiring harness off the factory head unit, the little locking lever on the harness just snaps right off. No way I was going to buy an entire wiring harness so since the locking mechanism was still workable, I got creative with some epoxy and electrical tape. That things not coming off without a fight at this point.

Kidding, kidding....

My only boo boo on the Ram (thus far anyway) was I pulled the dreaded washer location mistake when installing my bilsteins. Put the washer under the nut (where god intended them to go....) instead of under the spring retainer plate. So a week after the initial install, I got to do it all again. Bright side is the second time around from the time I raised the truck to the time I put it back on the ground was about an hour and a half. Always quicker the second time!

Worst thing so far wasn't to major but just really annoying. I was doing the fold down rear seat mod and the head of one the bolts for the seat came off. It was frustrating something so simple had to go wrong haha.

I was changing the front springs on my 2wd 1500 and while I was positioning the spring it fell over onto my ABS cable. Ripped the wires out of the plug and had dash lights like crazy. Luckily I was able to fix it myself.

I was doing a diy color match on my stock mirror caps, they came out great so good that I was so excited to put them on the truck I could wait for them to dry so I had this bright idea to "oven bake them " at the lowest temp of my oven 7 mins later. They were a melted mess.:superhack: ended up buy new mirrors

Wow...that's a good one.

I was worried as hell when baking my headlights.

It turn out all right I found a pair of mirrors with puddle/turn signals no power fold on CL for 100$ so I colored match those and was just a bit more patient.
I also think that was the problem a few days b4 this I baked my headlights at a higher temp so I didn't think they would melt lmao at such a low temp.
Here what the new mirrors look like (truck needs a wash :( )

Tried to hard wire a radar detector in my truck. Ran the wire under the dash (pulled the dash to hide nicely) once all that was done hooked up the wires to my toggle switch turned it on and my detector started smokin smh

Accidentally remote started my truck in the driveway while changing the oil. A lot of oil comes out of that filter hole!

I love this one because it sounds like something I would do.

I did my own brakes and rotors and apparently rotated a caliper 360 degrees the wrong way before I put it back on, brake line was hitting the tire and I didn't notice...lost my brakes in a parking lot (thank God, was about to get on the highway) had to tow it and overall was a $200 mistake
