wish fiat didn't lock down my computer, I'd have a tuner already. my 2014 1500 was night and day after a tuner.

You should try doing a better job at spending your money than your wife. LOL

You guys are funny:) and yes I'm working on it I just bought some Firestone ride air bag that I'm waiting to come in but my next mod will be the tuner.

RE: Tuning -- That's what I read too. Not worried -- it's only $$$ -- and if it's worth it, I'll have my factory PCM to go back to if I sell, etc... In the diesel world -- they drop over $1k all the time -- but the gains are far more substantial.

So the evaluation would be $1k+ to tune a gasser -- how much benefit would be enjoyed? If the shift points, torque converter lockup on the 66rfe would be greatly improved along with extra fueling in the mid-to upper range, it might just be.

This is where your opinion is so valuable to someone like me contemplating (down the road) possibly tuning.

How do you mention a CAI and not state the make / model???? Hmmm.... ???? ;)

I've been on both sides of tuning (gas/diesel) and diesel gains made it a lot easier to swallow the price. I keep thinking about tuning my 15 6.4L but I remember the gains I got from my 2012 1500 5.7L and it makes it hard to swallow 1k+ to tune this truck. Plus I'd be very tempted to add long tube headers.

Thanks for all the info, very informative. My warranty is so going to be gone and have been considering a tuner/pcm install, you just help make the decision easier.

I am in a similar boat, I had a heavily modded diesel prior to the 6.4 and frankly for what I tow etc. the 6.4 has more than enough power, but I do like much of the "drive-ability" changes. The shift points and "big brother" features that feel like they are always acting against what I would like the transmission to do would be worth it.

That being said, I don't want to go the whole CAI/Exhaust route with this rig, I already have a loud ass Tundra with headers, side dump exhaust etc. and this one is my nice quiet rig that just works well.......towing with my old diesel with 5" exhaust etc. was brutal after 3 hours.......and I would have to yell to my wife.....lol

I can't leave anything alone so within the first 500 miles put new wheels and tires, then at about 1500 miles put the mufflex exhaust on. Then this summer added the rcx level and a 1.5" spacer for the rear and bds rear adjustable tracbar. Other than a few other visual mods and maybe a cai if one comes out I'll probably won't add any more performance mods.

I feel for you guys who have to pay for a PCM in addition to the tuner.

I felt purchasing the tuner and tune package was a cost effective mod. If I had to double the cost I would have to think about it a bit. But based on my previous experience with tuners and custom tunes on Hemi powered vehicles, I firmly believe I'd make the same decision.

Of course, that's a moot point in my case, and it don't help you 2015+ truck owners does it... :roflsquared:

Seeing reviews like yours doesn't make it an easy decision and peaks my interest in it again

Well, just bought a diablo trinity. Looking forward to getting that dialed in, taking the truck to Pittsburgh for the playoff game in a couple weeks!

Yeah..the first time I had the I2 write to the PCM it seemed like it took forever. I thought something was wrong but it just kept humming away.

Wasn't real impressed with the tune to be honest. I did the 91 cause I'm probably driving to Pittsburgh for the playoff game and not sure if they have 93 or 91, so maybe the 93 is better but it didn't change much other than the regular driving feel. I'll play around with the setting like I did with my previous intune, throttle delay and a couple other things kill the acceleration on these Hemis. Or I'll just have to do a hemifever

I wasn't overwhelmed with the results of the canned tunes, either.

Once I had the custom tune from Hemifever it made a huge difference.

It really sounds like the Hemifever is the way to go for the 6.4........canned are always compromising somewhere. A tune customized to your particular rig is always going to feel the best.

MADDOG.......with the fever tune, what did it do for the shifting while towing if anything? The tough part I find is in order to get controlled smooth shifts I have to manipulate it manually vs. using the pedal. If I'm humming along in 5th and see a hill coming and want to drop to 4th it can sometimes take a lot of pedal to get it to do anything, in the meantime I have lost enough momentum that when it does shift it drops all the way to 3rd hard, too hard for the horses for my liking. Hence why I just manually grab the gears, but I was wondering if the tunes would help with that piece as well.

Thanks

I've usually felt a big difference for the canned tunes in the five or six vehicles before this one but maybe the factory tune is so conservative it takes an actual custom tune to make a difference. I typically adjust a couple parameters that I didn't this go around, things like throttle boast make a huge difference. Torque management also kills the Hemi with the factory tune so playing with that helps as well. I'll mess around with it some after New Years and go from there. If I'm still not happy I'll buy a hemifever tune.

I'm getting my 2017 6.4 Sport from Dennis Dillion's. Shooped all over the country and they offered the best price. Worth traveling from PHX AZ to go get it.
