Latest Amsoil PI and Power Foam independent test. The results for PEA combined with heat in the combustion chamber speak for themselves.

Just did my first change on my truck... Mobil 1 EP and Mobil 1 filter. EP was an oil change special at Advance this week, $33 for 5qts plus filter. Still planning on changing it much sooner than the 15k they say it will last. I don't drive often, so I will likely hit the 3 month mark before I hit 3k miles, not sure if I should let it go to 3-5k even if it takes 6 months. Thoughts?

Sooo im sitting at my new dealer (moved) getting an oil change. I asked what my oil change options were and what oil they used. They had 3 options, conventional, syn blend, and syn. I asked the brands, and she had to go ask. She came back and said they were Pennzoil, (they werent sure on syn blend lol), and PEAK for the full syn....

PEAK?!?! Thought they had to use Pennzoil?

Needless to say I went conventional, and would just do it myself, but its under full warranty and I dont want to give them a reason to deny anything.

Someone posted this VOA of Peak "Full Syn" 0W-20 back in 2011 over at Bob's. Who knows how much it has changed since then. If it's still anything close to this, you definitely got the better oil with PYB.

JMO 6 months 5/6 thousand miles is a good interval. That's what I do. If you were planning on going any further than that I would do a UOA and see how you're oil is doing. As far as the 15/20/25 thousand mile thing goes I'm sure in select engines and perfect conditions that it could be done, it's just not for me. I'd rather put the $30 that a UOA costs towards fresh oil and filter.

Ha ha , that's what some dealers are recommending as their top tier oil ....???******* ....just another reason to never take you vehicle to the dealer for anything besides a recall ....

I did 12k+ miles on one run of 0w-40 SS and the UOA was great. That was in a 6 month period, I ran cross-country several times in a row while towing 4-11k each way. I wouldn't do that in a daily driver/mixed driving situation, but I think when it's 99% interstate miles it's okay. Even though the UOA was great, I probably wouldn't go over 10k again with any oil. It just doesn't feel right to me.

Correct me if im wrong but think I remember your UOA on that. Wasn’t your iron around like 70PPM?

It is deplorable with the relationship between FCA and Pennzoil that Peak is what they have for oil. Dealers should all at least have PP, but they should also have PUP imo. Mandatory...

Although it is hypocritical for them not to carry what FCA recommends, I don't care what brand they carry. They should offer a robust oil and at the very least ensure that the customers are getting a better oil when they pay for the "upgrade" to synthetic. What they are doing is bait & switch/price gouging.

If that Peak **** is what they're putting in at my dealership they're charging $120 for 6qts plus a Pentastar oil filter. That's ridiculous. The only way I'd have a dealer change my oil is if I were leasing. Then I wouldn't care at all.

Plus, lets not forget the dealership doesn't want your vehicle to last, they want it in for costly repairs or you to get fed up and buy a new vehicle. That's probably why they don't carry PP or PUP...

Funny thing is , most folks who trust the dealer to do simple task such as an oil change not only have no idea of what a quality oil is , they don't even know what their engine is speced for or what's good or bad ....most just trust the dealership blindly .... unfortunately the dealer is well aware of this .
The dealer charges a premium pice for a lesser product = dealer makes a greater return on their service all while knowing they will also fix future repairs for this idiot that they ultimately was the cause for ....and again they will charge a premium because the BS Warranty has recently ran out ...
