I’d do a retro-mod on my 65 C-10. I’d be willing to spend the cost of a new truck to make it happen.

For me probably a 2500 Silverado with the 6.0. A guy I work with has one with close to 300k on it with only basic maintenance, motor has never been opened up further than the valve cover gaskets.

Yes, I would never never ever buy a second choice! I've never settled, I'd do without first!

not me I like trying new rigs. I have rarely ever kept one longer than 2 years and I bought my first new rig in 1977...a sickness yes but one I don't mind having. prior to this Ram my last dodge was a new 1998 Durango and after that I swore I would never buy another dodge again. Only kept it a year. I then got the jeep sickness and had a 2013, 2014, 216 and 2018 all wrangler rubicons. never had an issue with any of them but I built them up and sell them and start over. Wanted a tremor but due to Covid could not find one that did not have the price all jacked up so was going to buy a gladiator and on the morning I was going in to sign the papers my wife said I should test drive the PW that was parked next to it...liked it enough and my neighbor is the GM of the dealership and he gave me a screaming deal ie $50K otd so figured I would try it for a year or so. Been watching the lots for a 7.3 tremor so far they still want too much for them. Don't get me wrong I don't hate my Ram but not married to it either. I see you have a 2012 and that is great but I myself have never been able to keep a vehicle that long. I am embarrassed when I put it down on paper how many cars, trucks and motorcycles I have had. My motorcycle fetish actually started in 1972 even before my car/truck addiction. I have a very understanding wife lol.

Honestly, for a second choice, I'd go back to a Tundra like my previous built truck; it was a beast off-road and had more road presence than my built Rebel.

I have taken my Rebel off-road for many an adventure since I purchased it a year and a half ago and have plenty of other built Fords, Chevys, Jeeps, etc. to compare to. But never in my life have I owned a truck (Rebel) that groans and moans so much when stressed out on a trail. Even my wife has to ask "is everything okay"?

But the Tundra was rock solid, never a squeak, and I could abuse that thing in sand and over rock. It drove solid on long trips too (gas mileage was same as my Rebel since I mod my trucks a lot and totally destroy any factory devised mileage saving abilities...lol). However, part of my preference is that the prior Gen Tundra was also lot simpler relative to any of the newer Gen trucks of any make either. It just looked and sounded great with its TRD exhaust and had plenty of grunt to boot while never had to take it to the dealer for anything other than oil changes (can't say that about my Rebel as I have had 3 trips to the dealer already to address various rattles, bad USB unit that constantly dings when something is plugged in (like a phone), and suspension squeaks not to mention factory recalls). But I have so much money for mods already in this thing, with more waiting in my shop, so I am committed to seeing this rig through.

At first, I wanted a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon but couldn't fit in it very well and the rest of the cab space was just too small. My next pick was the Ford Raptor but could't correlate the high price (with market adjustments too) for a older, hard plastic interior. Then I wanted a Power Wagon but didn't like the road feel for daily driving. I finally decided on another Tundra but they were getting hard to find and the local dealers were not dealing, so went to Ram, found my Rebel, and liked the deal!

Now the new Tundras are out and IMHO one of the ugliest factory designs I have seen in a long time. So if I had to choose now, maybe the newly redesigned Raptor or F250 Tremor.

Used to own a Honda Ridgeline 2006 bought July '05. Had one check engine light in 229K miles. No rust. Took care of it like it was a family member. All black ext with tan leather int. Upgraded it with a bluetooth/Kenwood stereo system and trimmed out in front with entire 316SS grille. Got rid of the Honda logo, installed OEM side runners, and black wheels. Actually had a tear when my son who wanted it so bad, bought it and drove away...BUT I wouldnt buy the newer Ridgelines. They suck. That was a first of a kind truck and it held up well doing some good dirty work. This 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie is outstanding. I hope it lasts as long....

If I didn't find a Ram I liked I had my second choice set on a 14-18 Sierra 1500 Denali. I wasn't buying new so my parents A-plan discount with (dry heave) Ford wouldn't help coach me into an F-150.

It's second on the vehicle to-do list unfortunately house stuff takes precedence over all things. Maybe I'll give it another look over winter and see if I can at least get it running
I totally hear you on that :waytogo:
