UPDATE: to anyone making similar changes. Carli CS-DMRC-14-R2 2in progressive rate rear springs are in route from CJC, replacing the too soft Thuren 1in.
I aired up my air bags to full and measured the shock up-travel, looks like I have enough travel with the Thuren/King rear shocks that came with the Thuren system to work with the 1in. taller Carli springs. It also appears that the Thuren track bar, extended swaybar hardware, etc, will work as well...
If I didn`t have air bags I probably would have to order the Carli extended bump-stops, Carli has a great section on their website comparing the spring rate differences between their R1 and R2 springs, very informative..
I`ll up-date further on compatibility with the Thuren components once the new Carli springs are installed.
UPDATE: The 2in. Carli progressive springs (1in higher than the Thuren springs) and the Revtech transmission thermostat by-pass have been installed along with new 37in. Toyo at3`s and AMSOIL in all of the diffs, trans and motor!
I`ll start with the Carli springs: Hitched up my current/old trailer (around 750 tongue wt w/full propane tanks & batt) with 10lbs of air in the airbags...truck now sits perfectly level where the Thuren springs had excessive squat! Unloaded height is 46in at the lower lip of the fender flare, 44 3/4 with the trailer hooked up! This measurement is WITHOUT the weight dist bars hooked up. A short test drive (again, without the bars) showed a significant decrease in porpoising, should be even better with the bars installed. I expect this setup to work well my new toy-hauler (1,500lb tongue weight) along with my new Weighsafe heavy duty weight dist hitch, it`s really stout!
Revtech transmission by-pass: As others have reported, my average trans temps were around 172-176* and now run around 152*average, so around 20-22*+ lower average than stock!
Toyo at3`s: Less agressive than the Trailhogs they replaced, nice smooth ride with a slight hum at higher freeway speeds, I like them a lot and they`re snowflake rated so I expect excellent grip in all conditions except thick mud..
AMSOIL: The Hemi sewing machine noise is noticeably quieter, luckily I never had any of the dreaded lifter tick that others have reported. No noticeably change to transmission shifting but I sleep better knowing the trans and diffs have the extra protection.
Also... went with Lubelock gaskets on the trans and diffs with no issues or messy RTV.
So that`s it for now, I`ll update again when I pick-up the new heavier trailer... for those interested in making similar changes I hope this info is helpful...cheers!
