I'm running amsoil signature and the more the temps drop the louder the tick gets. Got me debating spending $100 on redline oil change

Just a thought, why not take off the filter and empty it, that should be about a quart, maybe bleed a little more off from the pan. And just try adding one quart of redline to your Amsoil for another run. To be honest there are a ton of guys who run a cheap oil and run a quart of redline with it. Just food for thought. 900 PPM Moly will more then double your Moly you currently have, might just work.

I was thinking about that but didn't know if it would make a difference. Hat to wait the amsoil with only a few thousand miles on it

The guy who just posted up the VOA went from 20 PPM Moly (left over from his prior change) and a tick, to Penzoil Platinum 80 or so PPM Moly and the tick went away. It will make a difference, whether or not it will be enough to get rid of the tick remains to be seen. But I have a feeling it will, and then run it up to 10k on the OCI and then bother going Redline. After seeing the other guys results I am seriously thinking about doing 6qrts penzoil and 1 redline too, lol. Maybe save some money and still be tick free.

I would estimate adding 1 qrt redline will take you from about 60PPM Moly Amsoil has to about 160PPM. There are no compatibility issues between group 4 and 5, and your new Moly level will be less then the old formula royal purple which made a name for that brand. You will have over double the Moly in average motor oils just by adding one quart. Let us know if you try it. it is a much better plan then adding a Moly additive IMO, it is a different kind of Moly in redline and all passenger car oils.

I'm doing an oil change this weekend. I was planning on changing from Mobil1 which has made my tick louder and added a slight knock at start up. Especially with the cold mornings now. I am going to use Penzoil Platinum. I wonder if I should try this and add a quart of redline? Could it cause any negative side affects?

Redline and Penzoil are completely compatible. Like I said I would totally do this in my Ram. I would bet it will quiet your valve train. I'm sending you a PM were guys mix redline with other oils including penzoil platinum, I can't post it here because it is from another forurm, check your PM>

Definitely. If it wasn't, you could switch to 100% redline at a later date, but you will have an impressive Moly level just by adding 1 qrt. Even if Redline didn't work I have some other ideas too, but so far redline seams to be the ticket, and maybe PP by itself as well. The more guys trying different stuff will give us all some information on how to combat this tick. Seams like we are starting to get some answers, and it seams like Moly is part of the solution. The UOA is just another example of this. Guy goes to a none Moly oil gets tick, goes with a penzoil moly oil and no tick.

I use Mobile1 in my wifes Camaro and my RAM, Royal Purple for my bikes.

Mobile 1 Full Synthetic 0W-40 In Challenger. Ram Get same different weight

RP in all my bikes. RP Max Gear in the trannies. Great for air cooled motors.

Run the K&N filters on the bikes. Love the integrated 3/4" nut on the end. Hate oil filter wrenches.

Got my Penzoil Platinum today. Found it on sale at 40% off. I am just waiting for the Redline to come in. It will be here tomorrow. I plan on doing the change tomorrow as well. I will report back any changes.

I ran Mobile 1 for many years. Just before I got the new truck I noticed RP was only $0.40 more per quart at my small town parts shack. So I swapped when I got the new truck, just because....

Just changed from Mobil1 to PP with 1 quart RL. Didnt notice much change on first start up. I will run it awhile and report back. What a messy change. I used a plastic bag to remove the filter but I still had to wipe everything off after. Was pretty easy though. I found the best access is from the front underneath the truck.
