Hi guys,

So i posted a while back about the trans staying too cold which i solved. I’ve noticed as of recently when the trans shifts into 4th gear from 2nd with slow acceleration that the rpms will jump up and down while slowly accelerating in 4th. It does it in 5th too. and you can hear it and feel it but it’s not crazy bad and it doesn’t do it all the time.

I also noticed that when it happens and if i put it in tow haul mode that it goes away instantly. trans doesn’t downshift or anything it’ll stay in the current gear but it’ll just stop surging immediately. Rpms only jump up and down maybe 100-200 rpms and it doesn’t happen when you’re at cruise at 55.

Also noticed that there’s a very bizarre feeling when passing someone in 2nd. as soon as it hits 4k rpm it feels like you let off the gas even though you’re still wide open and then it picks up again a few seconds after. Any help? there are also no codes.

How much are the RPM jumping? Could it be the TC locking and partially unlocking as MDS kicks in and out? Only ~100rpm jump in that case.

Tow/Haul changes the entire shift schedule and (I beleive) turns off MDS in the RFE trucks.

Apologies, i never got a notification someone responded to me. It is a 4.7 so i do not believe it has MDS.

It’s probably jumping around 100-200 RPM. It happens when accelerating slowly in 4th, still no codes for it though so i’m not sure exactly what it could be. However when i dropped the pan i did find some interesting stuff i’m just not sure where it’s from. I’ll post a pic. I’m unsure if it’s from the converter but it would make sense if it was.

I also found last time i did a filter change that the sump seal was very weak. Filter was able to easily come out of the hole with no resistance and as soon as i replaced it with a new sump seal the trans had atleast a 30-60 degree temp drop.

Ahh, I missed the 4.7. Def no MDS then.

Perhaps with the loose filter it was pulling air?

That’s what i am thinking. Probably needs a new converter even though i still have no codes for it.
