Ah, yeah that could suck. Our drive was 6 1/2 hours, totally worth it though.

I've only made 2 payments on mine so far and if I'd originally went with a loaded diesel it would of cost me $300 more a mth so I'm not really losing much

I was originally looking at a hold over 2012 Laramie Dually and opted against it. I didn't want leather and I didn't want a dually (4 tires are already expensive enough to replace).

Yeah, as much as I like my 13 CC Laramie, I think I will be looking to sell it year end and look for a 2500 diesel...likely F250 though:( The Hemi just doesnt have it towing...and I dont tow a lot..only about 4000lbs....I couldn't imagine towing a 30 ft travel trailer or toy hauler with it...the power is there (up in the RPM's), but the mileage isn't it and the rear end is very soft. As well, I am thinking resale and residual value on a diesel is far better than the Hemi......all that being said, I really like my Ram for daily driving and hauling stuff around.....but a diesel is likely up my ally soon...

This is pretty much the conclusion I came to as well.

Finally got a chance to tow with the new rig. Wow... Amazing difference. The stability is huge. No sagging in the rear end. The E rated tires. The torque and power, I could hardly tell it was there. The exhaust brake, omg, wow. And finally the mileage. Went up/down the road we typically do averaging 12mpg with a brand new Diesel engine... The HEMI was getting 9 mpg. Definitely worth the upgrade, looking forward to the engine being completely broken in and seeing the mileage gains.

I quickly put 1,200 miles on my new rig. I've noticed towing and not that my mpg's have been better than my hemi. I could argue that my hemi was older and worn but when I let it go I only had 11,400 miles (2012). In case you didn't know, I upgraded to the 2500 because I was towing a 35 ft toy hauler. My towing was at max and I was over payload.

My hemi :
Towing - 9.5 mpg
Non average - 18.5 mpg

2500 CD:
Towing - 12.5
Non average - 19 mpg

I know the CD will out last the gas hemi, it should.. I think you made a fine choice and congrats on the new rig.

2013 Real World Data Hemi vs Diesel Towing ~9K lbs.

I have a 2011 2500 Ram Crew Cab Bighorn 6.7 4.10 and 47K on odometer - I haul a 30' Toy Hauler about 5-7k mi a year and have a 80/20 Hwy/City commute - Towing the dash shows 9.5mpg average towing (10mpg best ever) Commuting is 13 to 14 for a 55 mile round trip - best hwy was 17.9 - going to see the Dealer later this week on trading in for a 2013 - looking at 2 2500 Crew Cab vehicle's in stock the Hemi 5.7 with 3.73 rear or the 6.7 with the 3.42 rear what are you 2013 owners getting for mpg towing / hwy / city etc. I'm leaning towards the Hemi only because of commuting costs? Diesel here is on average >$0.40/gal over gas. I expected about 15 to 20% better economy than I am getting and I'm down about 30% overall from my 2007 Ram with the 5.9 Diesel engine. Looking for some real world data to help make up my mind - Diesel or Hemi?

Are you tuned and deleted or stock?

Ima guess, "stock" just for kicks. No real science behind the guess. Just an impulsive call.

Seriously though, I'm curious to know as well.

It is stock - that's why I'm Hesitating on the 6.7 and leaning slightly towards the Hemi - the dealers in the area are not chip friendly and will void warranty if u even hint at it.

That right there could be your issue. Many people report better mpg when deleted and tuned. I believe my buddy's 2012 cummins 4x4 long bed had 4.10 gears(maybe 3.73) and he could get around 12-13 towing(mainly cars) and 18-20ish highway unloaded with deletes and tune on 35" tires

Rationally speaking, they can't just say, "Oh you have a tuner, your warranty is void."

Yeah, in your case I think that you did the best thing by going that way.

If you need to tow a 35ft. toy hauler buying at least a 3/4ton w/diesel just makes sense- MPG aside. You can never have too much truck in front of a trailer.
Whats the max payload on the 6.7CTD 2500 CC?
