I'd check this information out with the 4x4 crowd, but I thought the trans are the same, with only the tail housing changed out for the transfer case.

Not sure in this exact scenario, but that would be typical. You could switch, but the crossmembers, drive shafts, etc would likely also have to make the trip. Easiest scenario likely to put taleshaft/TC from bad tranny on new tranny and carry on.

well i spent the latter part of the day working a 46re outta 99 durango 4x4. didnt get it out before the jy closed and im kinda glad....i got home looked under my truck and guess who actually has a 47re? is this normal in a 1500? i heard of them being installed behind 360's in 2500's and i know the ones on ctd and v10 are diff bhp. this makes me wonder if this is one reason everything acting *****'d. would a 47re from 2500 not speak correctly w computer in truck that (i thought) was supposed to have 46re? and can i even put a 46re in it? and yes it is a 47re in there right now for sure...same pan as the one in my 99 ctd and looks diff than 46.

Here's a 46re, I don't believe the TCM is same between the two.

so i guess im gonna grab a 2wd tranny, driveshaft, and computer for now...or maybe swap tailshaft/od unit. im leary of that tho because the transmission has issues (obviously)
so heres what the og tranny does...
hard to start and keep running in park. not so bad in neutral.
stalls if you stop in drive or reverse.
doesnt seem to go past 2nd.
cant hardly push it in neutral....wont roll you have to push and push hard.

guy just put new pump in it. you can see why im leary of using od unit. idk what to do. im on a tight budget and cant really afford a rebuild rn. i have been thinking torque converter...but idk if i wanna risk wasting the money and still having to grab a jy tranny.

soooo got a recently rebuilt 2wd 46re outta same year truck, the computer and a driveshaft for $216. just to answer my own question, yes the swap is easily done. i didnt even have to swap the computer or cross member. everything works great!
