4wd? Every truck is different from the factory, so it depends. 2.5" might give you vibrations in 4wd (if applicable). 2" should fit with a 17x9, with either 0 or less offset. If you go too much offset, you run the risk of hitting fenders and such when turning. Slight plastic trimming in the wheel well may be needed as well.

I have a 2012 with 3" level an the wheels I tried are bfg ko2 35x12.5 on -24 rims. Turning the tire hits the inner fender seam. I don't know yet, but hoping to trim it and reshape the plastic guard with heat gun to get clearance.

Yes. Take a look at the Guide to Leveling linked in my signature. It will tell you everything you need to know.

I typically use a cut off wheel on a pneumatic die grinder. Works great for getting into most places. Then a grinding wheel to get rid of some more if needed. A sawsall can also be used depending on what/where you need to cut.

Essentially mark where you want/need to cut with a sharpie so you have a line to follow. Cut it with whatever tool you have for the job. Check for clearance to make sure you succeeded. Then seal up the cut edge with some paint so it doesn't rust.
