View attachment 525665Pretty awesome how reliable these engines are when people crap on them all the time. Thought I’d make a post about my mileage for the heck of it. 292,309 on a 2012 4.7 1500.

Always nice to see another strong running ram! My brother had a 4.7 in an early 2000's dodge, when I drove it the only really complain I had was power, but the 4.7 would probably wake up quite a bit with the ZF 8 speed behind it.

I have an 09 with 193k, only issue is a little smoke at startup that may be the valve guides. Would have been a great engine in front of the 8 speed

My 2010 4.7 is just 195,000 miles. Running strong. Wish it had an 8 speed, but other than that no complaints with the engine and drivetrain.

I did the valve stem seals and springs in April. Way big job. If I had todo it again I might pull the heads instead of doing it in the truck.

I may just let it ride and order a long block at some point.

I agree, there's a lot of people on videos who like to hate on these engines, and you'd get a sense reading online reviews, they were garbage. IDK how long these people have actually owned their vehicles though. Early on there were problems like head issues, head gaskets, and a few other items which as I understand were addressed. Even our 03 Jeep Grand Cherokee had a head issue early on where they were replaced (by the dealer under warranty). The previous owner sold it after the head issue, but since then it's accumulated 240k trouble-free miles and keeps chugging right along. It's the HO version. Loads of power. Gets decent economy for a SUV.

There've been lots of Dodge Dakota's with them too.

I agree. the 4.7 Powertech was one of the best engines ever made. They unfortunately were susceptible to head warping if over heated. I had one in a Dakota and it was super smooth and quiet until I sold it at 148,000 miles. Lot's of low-end torque.

I have 223,000 on my 2007 and she is still purring along but it is a machine and they do wear out. I'd like to do some refresh on her in the next year or two. As far as overheating...I don't know that any engine does well with that.

In my Dakota the motor wasn't the problem it was the transmission with two second gears that caused issues. Didn't last long and had problems finding someone competent to repair it.

I have an 05 Grand Cherokee with 160 k on the 4.7. Never any problems with engine or drive train. Plan to drive it to infinity and beyond.

Mine is a 2012 RAM 4x4 4.7 ST quad cab with ram boxes (nice), and I have accumulated 260,000 miles already. Still running strong. Only problems have been the usual, battery, alternator, radiator, cooling fan, water pump, and the worst one was the ignition module, change it with new programming and new key for $1,100 dlls., also front suspension, front braking system, tires (20)

Earlier Jeep GC/s there were two versions of the 4.7. The standard one weaker, the H.O being more powerful.

Good engines. I d be fine having one in a Grand Cherokee or any other car but the Ram is too heavy for a V6 and just like the V8 power for it. Maybe if it had twin turbos lol.
