After new head gaskets, new oil pump, cleaning screen, and changing spark plugs with better than 1/8" gap my mileage went to just under 18 highway and about 15 average overall. I drive like an old man though (go figure) but only about 30% highway and the rest stop and go. I firmly believe the spark plugs made most of the difference though I know it didn't like burning anti freeze. I expect to gain a little after re doing my entire front end and aligning. Dragging tires sideways does affect mileage.

my last truck was an '07 Ram 1500 QC 4x4 thunder road with 4.7 4x4 with 3.92s. i averaged about 12-13 or so in town and about 16-17 highway. i did find that tow/haul helped slightly in town (maybe 1 MPG). i also bought a superchips and tried all tunes. oddly enough the mileage XS was the worst at about 11.7. the tow tune was 12.4 and the performance tune was 12.8. stock was 12.7. i did notice a performance difference with the performance tune in but paying extra for the 93 octane fuel offset the fuel savings.

also, i pulled my 14x7 enclosed trailer (weighing about 3500lbs) on flat open highway and i got 8.5 MPG. the trans stayed in 3rd (5 speed auto) and turned about 3500 RPM the whole way.

i have a spreadsheet with all my fill-ups including my new truck. i also use fuelly.com but the '07 is no longer on there.

i bought the truck new and when i traded it in it had about 40,000 miles...still the original tires...lol

I had an 08 1500 std cab long bed RWD with the 4.7L, 3.21 rear end, and 31 gallon tank. I had an afe stage 1 intake and a glasspack. I drove from the east coast of Virginia to Decatur IL and averaged 24.3 mph, averaging between 65 to 75 mph. Towed a 4,000lb. boat back and averaged 13.4.

Just a heads up. I used tow haul all the time up to where OD would kick in and turn it off and it blew out my TC. It does save gas but not enough to pay for the new tc and tranny

I am also finding the Performance tune gets better Gas mileage. Yes the added cost of 93 octane offsets the fuel savings, however the better performance makes the truck just funnier to drive.

So same cost + more fun = Happier Driver !

During the winter I did get down to about 11~12 mpg (Highway), but now that the warm weather has settled in, I am getting closer to 16~17mpg (Highway).

I am keeping the Performance tune for now and will be looking forward to next winter and see if the tune also gets better MPG's in the cold weather.

Stay tuned

I bought the truck 2 weeks ago and I'm getting 11.8 MPG.

My 14 year old 6500 pound Suburban with a 5.3L and 285/75/16 All Terrains got 14 MPG. Never expected the mileage to be quite this bad out of what I consider a modern truck. Oh well, I still love it.

Ok After a tank of premium & performance tune & only about a 3rd of that with the new (to me(I custom built from free Borla system)) exhaust.

Canadian MPG = 17.4

I figure it should go up even more since it runs so much better with the new exhaust.

Do you have a write up on that exhaust mod?

Its a "Borla Cat back exhaust 15443 for AWD 3000GT VR-4 & Stealth Twin Turbo"
With a Magnaflow glasspack where the original muffler was.

3" stainless. & 2 glasspack Borla s right at the tips.

so it goes from the original muffler was to the over the axle piece that is 3" stock, then duals out.

Different truck (heavier, probably!), but with a 4.7 - 2007 Jeep Commander.

Did a Superchips tune - 87 octane, but I run 89 octane. For years, it got between 9.5 & 10.5 mpg around town (LOTTA hills, short hops, stop-n-go driving, heavy traffic) after the tune (8.5 - 9mpg BEFORE the tune). Pulled about 19.8/19.9 mpg on my annual trips to Buffalo & Lancaster, PA. I rarely leave Allegheny Co., so I only have these annual trips to gauge for highway miles.

JUST recently though, I had a Fastman throttlebody installed, along with a 2" level/lift. Went from 245 to 265 tires (17" wheels), and a I DID adjust for that with the tuner. ALL of a sudden, I got 21.9mpg going to Buffalo - in heavy rain with intermittent a/c running, and 22.2mpg coming back! And I started pulling anywhere from 12 - 14.5mpg around town - same location, same traffic, same hills, same stop-n-go!

I've NEVER heard of a lift, bigger tires, and bigger throttlebody IMPROVING gas mileage, BUT... I've no idea how to finish this sentence!
