I've got a 8ft bed on my ram 3500 and I am installing a pullrite 2600. I believe it has 2 position you can put it in. The standard position put the attachment straight over the gooseneck hole and the second position puts it further from the cab. Specifically designed to allow a greater turning radius in the 6ft beds without the 5th wheel hitting the cab.

Since I have an 8ft, I think that part doesn't matter for me. Is it still better to mount it in the further position. Or is closer to the cab more stable? Are there other advantages and disadvantages?

Closer to the cab. Have the same bed but not a slider 5th wheel you have. Think stability would be more important.
