So Amsoil is essentially saying 5w is OK, even when Ram calls for 0w? I wonder if that would prompt an CELs?

Ammo: does Amsoil sell a filter to fit the 6.4?

Thanks guys.

Could you post the link to the article/discussion comparing this Pennzoil Ultra 0w-40 to the Mobil 1 0w-40?

SUD...you ever find the link? Would like to read it as well.

Yes, AMSOIL does offer an oil filter for the 6.4L it their Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter (EA15K50).

Here is a link that allows you to pull up info for any vehicle:

What is everyone stressing over oil for anyway. Did I miss something here. I've changed mine and went with mobile 1 brand 0W40 and that's what the dealerships told me I could use and it's working fine. No sensors have been tripped. And the part for the SRT 6.4 oil filter is the same for ours.

I'm not stressing, just ensuring that my oil of choice meets the vehicle manufacturer specs. My Dodge dealer also installs AMSOIL upon request, I'm good with that. I doubt they would use it if CELs came on. Mobil1 is a good oil as well, and can be found cheaper than AMSOIL in a lot of places. However I use AMSOIL in my Hartley, the wife's Mini Cooper, the dirtbikes and will use it in my RAM when the time comes.

No stress here. Just ensuring whatever oil I opt for meets the Chrysler spec. Best I can tell, Mobil 1 does not. Amsoil 5w40 may, but the guys that design the engine call for Ow40 so that's what I'll use in my truck.

Like others have said, however, the other oils probably meet the spec, but they just haven't been tested to that specific spec. I caught the Pennzoil on sale, so I'll use that up and revisit the issue.

When I went by my dealership last week, they got in a huge Palet of mobile 1 0W40. And it was on sale at advance auto so that's why I went with it.

It's a great oil. May use it after I use this Pennzoil. Always liked it in other applications.

I have never used mobile 1 oil in anything I own. Nor Amsoil either. Not my bikes or atv's either. I've always used branded oil from the specific manufacturer such as Yamaha or kawasaki. I get it way cheaper at the bike shop than Amsoil. And my autos I have always used valorin high milage. Even from the time I buy them new.

Anyone tried the Mobil 1 extended performance oil filter (M1-113) on their 6.4 Hemi Ram? The last oil change/oil sale at Autozone they had, I stocked up on several filters, and want to make sure it actually fits. They didn't have any that their computer said fit, and I need to take them back and exchange. All the cross referencing I've done says it fits, but does anyone out there have it on now?

Update: M1-113 fits. Changed oil this weekend. Perfect fit.
The mopar filter seems well made. It was way too tight.

1st oil change today at 4,200 miles (Yes it's been 6 trouble free months since I bought it!) ... 7 quarts of Castrol Edge 0-40 and Mobil 1 filter. Old oil was very black and filter was on super tight. Oil life showed 37% on the display. Oil change was easy and idle now seems much smoother and engine not as loud. Installed fumoto valve so next change in 6 months will go even easier :) I couldn't find Penzoil Ultra anywhere. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Castrol Edge???

Wanted to clear something up on oil. You can change the first number so 5w-40 and 0w-40 could be used no problem as the first number is flexible based on climate. I would always suggest a 0W-XX oil with anything you can run it in. Based on research it seems to be the very best in every line or brand of oils. 0w oil is not ever available in conventional/Dino oil so you should be selecting only 0w-40 if possible because it will protect that beautiful 6.4L better than some random 5w-40 not meeting Chrysler requirement. You could not throw a code for switching the first part from 5W to 0W or vise versa you could possibly for messing with the 40 however since that is viscosity of oil at operating temps so truck might be advanced enough to sense it plus MDS may be impacted like it is in the 5.7L.
