I've got a 14' 3500 Laramie with the 8.4A and wanting to add navigation but it seems to be a better deal to just swap out the 8.4A to an 8.4AN instead of fighting with the dealer. Plus I'll get the full navigation suite and HD radio too. But is this just a simple plug and play swap or will I need to bring the truck in to the dealer still?

I'm guessing it will cost whatever you can find a radio for 4-500 bucks then recoup alot of it by selling the ra3

You can have the dealer install the nav for the same price as buying a replacement radio. I was told it was $400-$500 to have it installed. And, it's basically a download on the USB input of the system.

But, I guess you can't recoup any costs if you just have it added.

The RA4 has more features than the RA3 like 3D maps and HD Radio which much to my surprise makes a big difference There may be a few more different features I'm but I'm not sure. You can find quit a few RA4's on Car-Part.com which is a listing that wrecking yard use to sell parts. A lot of members get them from there.

I had the 8.4an in my 14. I really liked it. I just bought a 15 and it had the 8.4a . I thought it wouldbe the same because i had the dealer activate navigation as part of the deal. It isnt. Its not near as nice. The voice controls on the an are far better. The HD radio i didnt really an for because the stations I listen to would always loose HD signal. I still wish i had the an radio though. I may swap it at some point.

You can find an 8.4AN for $275 to $500. Any more and you're paying too much. This is the way you want to go. You can have it swapped out in 15 minutes and sell your 8.4A for at least $200.

what do you do for software updates? do you have to use the VIN of the donor vehicle to get the AN updates and do the used radios come with the VIN?

Yes we use the doner vin but it's just to get the Firmware update from the Uconnect website. Once you download the update you can download it in any RA4 radio that is the same from the correct year the 13 and 14 use the same Firmware the 2015 uses different Firmware

You call the number on th he listing and give them the stock number. Sometimes they are sold and they haven't taken them off yet but a lot of times they are still available. It might take a few tries but you will get one. I have bought a lot off the site just call if it's gone just make a note of it so you know that one is sold and call the next. There are new units posted almost every day. I have had very good luck there.

Ah okay, I gotcha. I'll double check it tomorrow. Gotta say, a radio isn't high on my mod list right now, but the nav would be nice.

Gotta admit the Nav with real time traffic is nice and so is the HD radio.
