I have been filling up with 89oct since the manual suggest it. But Can you run 87 in the HEMI and it will still run good?

It recommends 89, I use 89. It says that 87 is acceptable...but obviously they recommended 89 for a reason.

It will be fine. The PCM will adjust accordingly and in cooler weather months I can almost guarantee you won't feel/see a difference between the two fuels.

ive ran both and my truck seems to drive better with 89 but does just fine with 87 but I have also seen like a 1.5-2mpg drop running 87. most of what ive heard/experienced running 89 youll spend more at the pump but see it less often, and that the cost between both is the same. ide say if it costs the same might aswell just go with the 89

Only a handful of times in the year I have my 1500 did i notice a difference between 89 and 87. I noticed zero fuel economy gain going to 89 as well. I didn't start noticing the difference between the two until I got my vararam, stock I never could tell.

I ran 87 for about 2 years and I always thought it ran fine. I recently switched to 89 and maybe it's in my head but sure seems running nicer.

I've used 87 from the day a bought the truck in Feb of 2014. There have been several long distance trips made over the time I had the truck that I had to refill with 89 cause 87 was not available. I noticed no performance difference between the two.

OP, you'll be fine. The ECU will pull a little timing out to compensate for the lower octane. You'll maybe notice a drop in performance, including fuel economy. Modern vehicles will always safely run on lower-than-"recommended" octane fuels within reason. Just don't expect the engine to safely perform in high-load situations, like towing or hauling heavy stuff, for example.

I run 87 anytime I don't plan on towing. Haven't noticed any negative affects. I tried 89 a few tanks when the truck was new and didn't notice a difference.

Does the use of 87 to save money actually 'cause you to spend more money through the loss of MPG 'causing you to fill-up more often? I've always used 89.

i run 89, it runs great i see no reason to drop to 87, my Chevy would not run on 87 without pinging even though the computer should adjust it didnt, it pinged less on 89 but ran great on prem. so there is a difference

I found no evidence that MPG changes in a noticeable way between 87 and 89.

Ran 87 since day 1 no issues what so ever. I throw some injector cleaner stuff in it here and there. No issues and 1-2 mpg isnt ****. You bought a truck if you were worried about gas mileage you should have bought a prius..... Just sayn
