Traction Control problems
Well, my 2012 Ram 2500 Quad 5.7 Hemi 4x4 is having this problem. 22k miles.
First it started of just flashing the activation light on the dash and the ABS could be felt activating in the front. About 3 months ago. Then eventually the activation light just stayed on, where I could take it to local Dodge service to read the code and they had to order a new control module and G-force sensor for it. After back order came in, installed and initialized, drove it off the lot and guess what... same thing before I got 2 miles. During all this, I was initially told that it just needed an alignment and had it done right after leaving the service dept.
While this was going on, the front lower ball joints were wearing and started to cause a SEVERE front end shimmy/SHAKE while at highway speeds going over slight bumps or surface transitions. WOW! Very scary! Took lots of video with cell phone of the events w/ both Shaking and Traction Control activations.
Had the service dept. check the front end and that's what they found. Parts on back order again. "22,000 on back order, and only 900 in a depot, so there's an issue." Lots of play in the steering and no love for the Traction Control until the ball joints are done; according to the Dodge advisory service.
Called Dodge Recall notice phone number today and was told my truck wasn't subject to any recalls after providing them the last 8 digits of my VIN. Hmmm?
Hope this info helps give someone out there a heads up to check their truck out or get it checked out IF experiencing anything similar to what I have for the last few months.
- Lots of play in the steering wheel before wheels actually respond while driving.
- Clanking coming from under the front end.
- Traction Control random activation light (w/ ABS activation) when not slipping/skidding/spinning out. Which also caused loss of Cruise Control use while on/activating.
Best of luck to you all.
