So....I have searched all over the internet for instructions on how to replace the antenna on this dang truck. All the antennae I have ever seen just screwed on and off. Can someone help me out with this? I'm sure it's going to be one of those "duh" moments once I find out how it's done....

I think they may have used loc-tite then. There's the plastic piece that comes up from the fender, then a small chrome ring thingy. Above that chrome thingy appears to be something in which I can see threads, and then a rubber piece just above where I can see some threads. I've tried with pliers to break it loose, but it didn't work.

alex how is the reception on that thing? i had like a 13" and some one stole it. i never listen to the radio so i never replaced it. but it does look a little funky. i wouldnt mind just shaving it but im sure that would be a couple hundred dollars.

reception is awesome,

in a broadcasting city
i'm about 40 miles from jax where most the stations are from in north east florida
i lost my auto seek all together. you have to know the stations to program them in or hit the up button a **** load. i usually jam to cd's or the ipod thru the cassette deck.

however i love it because i dont have to see that damn line anymore but i can still pick up stations w/ minimal static. and yes i do get static depending on traffic and weather

What was moe's asking for that braand ? I'm keeping in mind that florida is pretty flat country. And the static could be sunspots. My am, is **** btw . How is yours with that shorty?

I attached a pic of what the antenna issue looks like currently. Am I correct that I should just twist the hell out of that black piece at the top and eventually it'll break loose? I'm afraid of breaking something and having more of a problem on my hands than I should.

And I'm putting a shorty antenna on, and when I say "shorty" I'm not talking about one like the 3" antenna AParrette posted about. I didn't even know they MADE antennae in 3" lenghts! Mine is maybe a foot long or something like that. A $10 Autozone part.

That's what I assumed but there are no threads inside the hole there.

amplitude modulation, used for broadcasting over longer distances than fm.(frequency modulation) Broadcasts clearer and in stereo. but cannot transmit as far. Am is used for football games and talk shows, australian **** wrestling, and polka parties. Fm are for your local tunes. That I'm sure you have heard.:naughty:
Thanks for the $ matter.

Ah....I figured it out. The threads were far enough down into that hole that I couldn't see them, but was able to get it screwed in there. We're all good now.

While I was tinkering around under the hood today, I noticed that there are 3 ground wires that come off from the battery and ground to the frame in 3 different spots. 1 of those 3 ground wires is cut right at the bolt on the frame it originally went to. Since I still have 2 out of 3 ground wires in place, do I even need to worry about re-connecting this 3rd ground??? Having 3 of those seems a bit overkill to me.

Back in the day there was only AM stations and vacum tube radios. In the sixties I had a 45rpm record player in my 55 DeSoto. It was all ****, but that were it started. If you had a 9 transistor radio you were golden. As for the antenna, to remove the whole thing the inter fender well needs to be pulled to reach the bottom of it. The antenna feed wire is two piece. To just replace the antenna wire sticking up in the air, unscrew it. I use a piece of leather and vice grips. I use a hidden antenna under the dash, it is not quite as good as the fender mounted ant but for the little I listen to the radio it is good enough.

Had a body shop weld in a small plate to fill the hole and do their magic....
