Are the gas and diesel fuel tanks the same?

Really disappointed in the low fuel capacity of the latest Rams. I'm researching the 6.4 Hemi Ram and wondering about a Titan underbed replacement tank (@ 55 gal). The problem is that Titan (and the other aftermarket fuel tank companies) only spec the replacement tanks for diesel fuel, I'm sure due to some certification something or other.

Knowing that at least in the 3rd Gens (and probably the 4th Gens too) the gas and diesel tanks were the same, my question is if the gasoline fuel sender would mount to a "diesel" tank? Assuming it would, what other issues might there be with this swap? The tanks "appear" to have adequate expansion space.

Outside of some CARB/EPA certification, what am I missing?

It looks like they are the same going by part numbers. 05032219AD is the main and 68241434AA the rear for 2017 3500 6.4 gas or 6.7 cummins 52 gallon fuel tank(s)

**those are the numbers for the 3500 Cab chassis flat bed. I don't know if they'd work on a pickup. 3500 pickup uses same tanks (31 or 32) as 2500

It's not an extra 5.5 gallon tank of fuel .... that's the DEF tank.

OK, if they're the same tank, any foreseeable issues with swapping a Titan in place of the OEM?

If it's using the OEM fuel sending unit, it probably would work. You're best bet would be to try to get a hold of someone at titan.

There is some obscure federal law that prevents the gasoline tank from being able to hold more then 40 gallons of fuel. I work for a bus company and we bought some new gas shuttle vans but wanted 55 gallon tanks we were not able to do that because of this law. So 40 gallon is the max

Which is why youbsee Titian only advertising diesel tanks

2017 Ford Super Duty crew cab long bed trucks come with 48 gallon tanks, gas or diesel. From the factory.

Did you hear that, Ram? 48 gallons. From the factory.
