I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Sport with a 4" Rough Country Lift. I'm wanting to replace my 76000 mile original brake hoses with steel braided brake hoses. I know that Rough Country tells you that you can use the standard hoses but they also tell you to pull the steel brake lines away from the frame. I'd like to do it right and also give myself an ounce of protection. Does anyone know of any Steel braided brake hoses for the front and rear that are made for 4" lifts? TIA

My BDS 6” kit included front SS extended hose, not sure where to source a rear SS hose.

I saw those and I’m considering them. I need to look more into the splicing for the rear brake lines to be more comfortable with them at this point.

You just have to cut off the crimped factory lines and flare the hardline for a normal fitting. I honestly don't understand why they cheaped out with the stupid crimps since flared fittings don't really cost that much and actually make things serviceable. You can rent the tools from just about any parts store or buy a flare tool without spending much money. Pretty much same story with anything that'll replace them if you want to go full braided.

Got it! I figured that’s what they were talking about but I never really looked at where the rear brake hoses started. I’ve flared enough lines to do it myself. All I need is the time and the tool. I have friends with good flaring tools. It’s more about actually being in state to find the time to do it. Ha ha

Aren't brake lines supposed to be double flared?

No. I don’t think so. I think that’s fuel line but it has been a LONG time since I checked in that.

Yes, brake lines needs a double flare. That extra thickness helps ensure the line does not crack under the flare nut. Not a good thing for a brake line to crack. The tool is $28 on Amazon or most auto parts stores loan them.

Just got mine in. Ordered the full set. Ordered my front 3” longer which may be 1” to long but I’ll deal with it. Rear I ordered 2” longer and that’s a perfect fit. I’m running 1” longer shocks and taller springs. I plan on installing Kings which I think allows for slightly more down travel than Bilstein 5100s. And my rear is 1” lifted with longer shocks. It wasn’t really pulling the back cables but figured why not. The front cables get a bit of tension at full droop though with my 1/2” top spacers

Price is dependent on your purchase.

remind me next time brake lines have to be done to bring it in to a shop... the rear is a pain in the butt. I did it but it was not fun. Still have to do the fronts but it’s getting dark. No discernible difference with just the backs. I did learn however that if I floor the brake pedal and hit the gas pedal I can overpower my brakes. I know that happens in 4wd low anyways.

Fronts are done. No pictures of them. I can’t really say I feel much difference in the brake pedal. It’s nice knowing I got that nasty oil flushed out though. It was brown and dirty. Truck was bought December 2016 and has 30,000 miles on it. New fluid is basically clear again. My pedal does feel less spongy basically feels the same as new again. And checked my brake pads. Still on stock pads and they look almost unused at 30,000 miles. Crazy

What was hard about it? Replacement or bleeding?

Cutting the line and flaring it. The factory hose is crimped directly to the hard line so you have to cut and flare the hard line and add the fitting in order to run the hose. It was just a tight spot and I’ve never done that before. Everything is great though now that it’s done.

OIC. Right on. I have never done that either. Interested to see how you feel about them after a few miles.

I don’t know that he will feel that much different since he doesn’t have that many miles on them. Where, I have 76000 on my original brake hoses. So my hoses will have weaker walls and not hold the pressure as well as hose do at half the miles.
