Cabin Air Filter Mod

Did mine this weekend!! ordered filter for 2010 Caliber and already had the cover. Thank you!

Did my 2014 a few minutes ago. Pretty straightforward. I do recommend heating the blade (I used a utility knife), it made cutting easier. Also pulling the upper glove box is a great tip. I was able to sit in the seat and easily see what I was doing. Only took removal of one bolt and then it pops straight out, took less than a minute and was well worth it.

ETA: I played with my HVAC a bit and there may be a slight reduction in airflow, but nothing near enough to make the system ineffective. That was my main concern, putting a restriction in would cause issues (even though most cars have these filters anyway). But alas, no problems, it's a good mod. [emoji106]

I knew it wouldn't be there, but I was hoping for some reason my 2016 would already be cut and have the door but it didn't

So I will have to order the door and filter and wait for the next nice weekend to do this.

From what I have read some 16s did some didn't !
As for the Cabin AF helping wait till you change the filter the first time :O When I did the 1st AF change in my Chevy HHR I was shocked to see all the crap it caught ! I put the Cabin AF in my 15 a few months ago and will pull it this summer just to see what it trapped.. FYI if you have a cable tied to you glove box it is spring wound and can be a bear to get back out.. Just tie a string to it and then tie it off to the door hinge or what u find easy to grab.. then when you reinstall the glove box the cable is right there

I found mine has the cable. Didn't realize it retracted till I went to put the glove box back on lol. Was a little bit of a pain to get back on but I got it.

The reason I knew about the cable retracting was because of this sight Saved me from cussing at it lol

New filter number

Hey guys I'm the parts manager at a dealership and figured I would give you the part number for the new filters for the 16s and 17s i would think they should fit just fine as the housing and the door stayed the same. P/N is 68318365AA. List price is $12.10 compared to the Journey or avenger one which is $32. If you guys have any other questions on parts just ask me and i can try to help out.
EDIT: I will have some of the new filters in on Friday and will confirm if they are the same size as the old number.

New Filter

I just checked the filter and it is a direct fit for the older pickups. On that note it does have less filter material then the Avenger/Journey one. This is probably why it is $20 cheaper.

From what I have read RAM started to install the Cabin AF in some 2016 and is now standard in the 2017 , Should be same AF as the mod

It is amazing how much crap it will catch,, When I changed my first one years ago in my Tracker it was Nasty, Did the ones in my sons HHR and MY HHR NASTY so since then I have n=been sold on the CAF,, It will save the Evap coil as well.. Thanks to this forum I now have one in my 2015 RAM

So was my 2015 lol from what the Gals/guys have said it was hit or miss on the 16s, I assume the later built ones were more prone to get 1

No 2016's came with a filter installed. Late builds (May) did have the factory punched out hole and a door installed. I read that the factory started using 2017 parts.
