The recent experience with my new Charger has me thinking they're the same. Whatever dye Mopar is using to make the stuff purple apparently breaks down over time.

Why they would do this is another question.
Money, charge more for a specific coolant type. Most people will not do the work or research to flush and replace coolant, only read their owners manual, or take it from the word of the dealer. You can run traditional Green antifreeze if you want as long as you've flushed your system. Hell many people do that today because they don't believe in the "new coolant" or its cheaper for them. I run aftermarket zerex G05 in my truck and my charger. Both were flushed very well with a OTC flush gun and using prestone cleaner for a few days then flushed again.
