So I noticed the paint was bubbling over my back tire do started scrapping. Well it is a rust trough on my truck the only one. Well there was about and inch of wet dirt behind the rust. Has any one had this happen and how does dirt get in there? Did not see any openings.

the dirt can get up there from the front or back of the box at the bottom. the area behind the quarter panel is not sealed from dirt being toss up there.

What is the best fix for this? I would like to fix this before I welded in new metal. And the metal rusted out right where the dirt was.

i don't know. you could possibly weld in some more metal to limit how much dirt could get back there.

if it is one of those plastic one they can sometime cause a bed to rust if water gets trapped between it and the bed and get to sit there long enough
