I have the 2006 1500 mega cab so I know everything is designed to be the 2500 frame, axles, etc, but I was wondering what all engines could be swapped with or without transmission both, I would like to go bigger than the 5.7 hemi and have more power, possibly diesel even, accepting all input, my engine is blown for those wondering, 98k on it and was trying to get some sleep in between shifts at work when I only had about 3 hours in-between and it overheated while I was sleeping in the acc2f048d73c3cf05a9d063a0e865444c1.jpg

The only engine you will be able to use will be a 2003-2008 5.7 HEMI. This is the only motor that will be compatible with your 545RFE transmission.

If you want to switch to the 5.9 Cummins, you will need a donor truck to get the ECM, engine wiring harness, radiator, condenser, intercooler, long block with injectors, fuel lines, fuel filter housing, in-tank lift pump, TIPM, and so many other things.

Stick with the 5.7 HEMI. They can make excellent horsepower and torque with very few modifications and still be very reliable.

Okay, I know many will scream at the thought, but I do have an 07 1 ton Duramax truck, needs all new lines for everything but trans and cooling I can steal everything off of

If you don't want any electronics to work or have it function like a normal reliable truck lol. Another option is take your block if it isn't scrap and have a stroker kit installed. Depending on the one you choose and the condition of your block and bores, you can go anywhere from a 370 to a 410 on a 5.7 block; as most of this is stroke, it will increase low to mid grunt with the proper cam and tuning. Trick here is to set it up right but not go overboard as that RFE as that RFE may not last too long behind it if you abuse it.

You could also get a 6.1 block and run it as is or stroke it, but you'd have to dress it up like a 5.7 (accessory drive, oil pan, etc) to fit correctly. You can stroke a 6.1 all the way out to a 440 (I wouldn't recommend it personally) but then you run into 1. trying to find one & 2. the same transmission weakness problem when too much power is put to it. I would go with the first suggestion.

Stock trans (545RFE) will self destruct long before the transfer case does

LOL at any rate, you'll need to look up the one you have to see what it's strength rating is. You'd probably be better off keeping the one that's attached to the Allison and rigging custom driveshafts.

The Allison is on a 2wd lol, so there will be a little work there
