I'm coming up on needing my first oil change since I bought the truck used. I have no idea what the previous owner used for oil.
I've read many threads on this and it seems like most guys run Red Line 5w-20 or 30 and use a Royal Purple Filter 20-820.
Looks to be about $100 for an oil change, roughly. I also seen people use Pennzoil ultra synthetic oil.
I was told by a few service techs to just run regular conventional oil and change it every 3,000k.
I only drive about 7 miles one way to work, all in town, a day. I read synthetic has better protection for the short trips where engine doesn't get hot for very long.
I also have the 5 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty remaining on this truck and don't want to give them any reasons to void my warranty.
Do I need to bring it somewhere so it gets logged and track into the service computers in case of warranty work? Can I change it myself? Can I bring the dealer the oil I would like them to use and hope they actually use it and not their in house stuff.
Any recommendations or advice is greatly appreciated.
