First off id like to start off by saying I know this is easier with the harness but I've just received the third one and they've all been wrong. I'm impatient and leaving for a trip and need this done ASAP .

I got the wiring diagram from modifiedlife for an 09 ripped apart my dash and the wire colors were all wrong. So I went and looked at the 2010 wiring diagram and for some reason they match up perfectly. So I went ahead and wired it up based on that diagram. Plugged in the head unit and the screen didn't turn on. Only a blinking red light.

I don't have the infinity package.
I hooked up my constant 12 through the factory harness.
Grounded to chassis.
Switched power to the 12v cig lighter plug in.

Any ideas??

Thanks guys.

first off how are 3 harnesses wrong? what harness are you buying? if its not the canbus harness and just the cheap ones that is your issue

you need the canbus harness yes they are more expensive but it has all the wires needed.

search the forum there has been a link provided many times where you simply put in your vin and it pulls all wires and harnesses for your truck

Hi streetdreams911,

+1 to what 1500ram12 said. That is the exact harness I used to put in my Kenwood DNX570HD in my 2013 RAM. Put it in turned it on gave it about 30 seconds and the radio was on and in the loop.
Don't know if the 09 is the same harness and setup or not.

The one I posted is for 09-12. The part number is slightly different for 13+

Lol clearly no one understood the question.. I know exactly which harness I need, it's getting it which seems to be the problem. I also know it's possible to hardwire this things into my truck I'm just curious as to why my color codes in my factory harness are not the same as the 09 manual, but identical to a 2010?

Also, how come I get a blinking red light but my screen doesn't turn on?

I love in northern Canada where it takes min 5 days to get some ordered( sometimes three weeks) bought one at the store, and ordered two! Ripped my dash apart every time being promised that this one would work.

Should be pretty simple to hardwire...

You shouldn't need to touch the factory wiring. You only are connecting the wires from the adapter harness to the wiring from the aftermarket unit

Well your vin might be an 09 but it really might have came off the line with 2010 parts depending on the build date. It happens a lot and its very frustrating. Buy a can bus harness your aftermarket headunit can't process the signal it is getting from your truck so that is why you get a blank screen.

So, it's impossible to hardwire an aftermarket headunit into a 4th gen ram? Cause I've seen a few people do it on this site with no problems.

I see.. Pretty much what I'm doing minus the harness.. For my switched 12 v I just tapped into the cig lighter in my centre console. But I got to thinking and I remember I bought a spot light a while back that plugged into a lighter plug and if I remember correctly one of my cig lighter plugs didn't work.

If the switched 12v had no power to it, couldn't I still turn on the unit manually by pressing the power button?

My girlfriend had a mazda tribute which had no switched 12v near by so I didn't hook one up. She just had to remember to turn it off before she got out.
I'm not sure if I just taped off the switched 12 v to the headunit or just tapped into a constant 12v.

Turns out that's what it was. The lighter plug I used had a burnt fuse. Changed to the fuse and it worked perfectly. Ended up hooking my amp remote wire to the same connection and running all the wires at the same time.

Took a lot of trimming to get that double din in the dash lol..

System sounds great!
Much needed upgrade for my truck
