I Got Rearended Yesterday! :(

Dropped the truck off at the body shop this morning. They will take care of the truck. I've taken good photos of everything before hand. The owners of the body shop went to my same High School and they have done a few of my stuff in the past as well as a ton of my friends. Never had an issue, so hoping that this will still be the case when I pick her up in a week.

State Farm wanted me to do rent from Hertz, but the body shop I am dealing with had a Enterprise right there so I went with them with the OK of my insurance company.

They put me into a truck, saying I had to have at least that as well.. which I am ok with..

What I am NOT OK with is they put me into a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado. I will be honest, I was a bit nervous thinking in my head, what if I like it better than my Ram..

That thought was gone once I did a walk around - and soon as I sat inside. HOLY crap. This is a 2018??!??! I've seen vehicles with better interior in the 90s!!!

This thing is FUGLY!!!!! I can't wait to get my truck back! My wife saw the truck and said "Does this come in a his?!" haha - I love her.

Worried a bit for the value of the truck now too. I wonder if it has to be "X amount" to be reported in an accident? I mean it's so far just the bumpers..

if the insurance fixes your truck, it goes on the record, doesn't matter how small

I got into a collision with my '06. A bank teller asked me to reverse and go into a different lane since the car in front of me was taking way too long. I checked my mirrors and reversed, WHAM. The little Kia that sat behind me was impossible to see and it put her hood into her windshield. It didn't touch the Ram, not a single scratch. The teller just walked away.... Man I was livid. Cop said it was still my mistake since I was the one in motion.

I never saw him coming, no air bags on my truck.
All ok, will have shop look at everything.
I know paint is expensive for my color. $150 for a half pint... Hope they will do that.. And then paint my grill to match, as it was off a 2014 and the color is a bit off since different color.

Lots of great body shops here in Az. When I got rear-ended in my Dakota R/t the insurance claim paid for all of the modifications I did. They cut a check to the shop and we bought what ever parts we wanted. For example, OEM rear bumper, brackets, trim etc... was like $600-$800. Sir Michael's weld in roll pan was only a couple hundred dollars. I ended up spending a bit more money and repainted the whole truck while it was there.

Glad you and your truck didn't take too much damage. My Dakota didn't look bad either but it ended up pushing the rear section on the frame rails down and the bed contacted the cab corners.

The bodyshop told me that if I had left my hitch in the receiver, the chances of the frame being bent go way up. He said always remove that. I was surprised by it, but he said you have a single point of contact and it's normally at an angle and will transfer the energy to the frame. So guess I am glad I took that out just a few days prior..

I was working from home in the morning and decided to go in for some reason... I should have just stayed home. haha

Man those factory steel bumpers held up well on the Ram for a 40 mph hit. Truck will look good with color matched bumpers.

That's why I got a truck with chrome bumpers and not the plastic ones when I bought my truck....

I got my estimate today from the body shop. $4K to fix her up.

I guess I need to know what to do to get my truck appraised and what not so I can go after the person's insurance company for diminished value on my truck now. I mean 4K miles only! I haven't even done an oil change as of yet!

Yep. And all the new no texting laws. Sitting up high I’m looking down at all the people holding their phone in their lap now texting so the cops can’t see them. The new laws have inadvertently and successfully made it more dangerous.

Body shop has had my truck for 8 days now, part of it was waiting on a part to come in. They called and said I should have it back by Wednesday!

I've been missing it. So, I ordered a few goodies for it when it comes back.

Third Brake Light Flasher
LED bulbs for license plate and cargo lamps

Got a few upgrades being done at the body shop too. Can't wait to get her back!!!

Painted chrome bumpers? Awesome! Might wanna look into clear bra them once the paint cures enough to keep them looking pretty and not rocked chipped

+1, it can be, yup! That and in a lot of areas now, its illegal to have it in if you aren't towing. Whether the police enforce it or not is dependent on the area too, but if you're in an accident in an area where its illegal, they will take it into account.
