I just purchased a new to me very clean low mile 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie Quad Cab. It has a strange looking intake on it, not sure I like the look of it at all, it also has a silver canister, looks like an oil catch can, I don't think either are factory optionsbbf1f792-f9fe-4091-93b4-2b1a624f4d1a.jpg3290da74-39ba-4058-9cca-2405f8e64489.jpg. Can you confirm?

1) That is a Varaam Air Filter Setup, not stock, (not an intake), improves air flow, leave alone, just check filter once in a while. Good possibility you may have a custom tune also.
2) Yes, Catch Can, not stock. Leave it there, just remember to empty once in a while. Since you are seeing for the 1st Time, go ahead and empty it.

The catch can is the only thing actually doing something, Keep it. ;)
Basically this. The stock airbox flows plenty of air for the engine to use. The only things you gain with an intake mod are sound and eye candy under the hood. Some people think that's worth it, some people don't.

The days of doing simple bolt-on mods to gain noticeable amounts of power are over, these things come from the factory running just about as good as they possibly can. If you want major gains you'll need to go cam, forced induction or put it on the bottle.

It doesn't hurt to run a pre-filter on the Vararam intake.
