So I've read about both the M1 and Hughes Air gap intakes. I've seen flow charts on both as well. From what I've read everyone wants an M1 and most everyone hates the Air Gap. I know M1 are getting hard to find but what is so wrong with the Air Gap? I know it's a dual plane intake and it's not the best for EFI. It's either a love it or hate it item....I'm trying to find reasons/ facts behind the opinions on these intakes.

The air gap intake is ok but it is originally a carbureted intake that has been modified for efi. The m1 was designed for these engines by the people who built these engines. Also the m1 flows enough air to support as many mods as you can do. The air gap, not so much. Check out this article:

I have done lots of posting about these intakes over the years. If you are reading info from Hughes site take it with a grain of salt he bs all the time on dyno results and other things.

I have the M1 and you will have to pry it out of my dead cold hands before you get it from me. I would mod a stock kegger intake before I bought a aircrap.

Testing intake manifolds for the 5.2 / 5.9 Magnum V8 engines

I've read over that article before. I'd like to find an M1 before too long but I know I'm running out of time.

No problem glad to help you. Summit and Jegs are both saying they are getting a shipment of these on the 27th of this month, you might jump on that bandwagon sir. Web sites are showing them in stock but they are not in stock anywhere I have looked for the last two weeks.

Yep I just got done looking around too and nothing is in stock. I'll just have to hop along with everyone else when the shipments come in.

to the OP

I did a m1 intake for a few reasons

1. I heard more negative than positive about hughes...which may be a lie or all true....either way it steered me towards ma mopar

2. the hughes kit is ok, but there is modifications you need to make..(air temp sensor? maybe?

3. the m1 is designed by mopar, the same people who designed the motor. Its a true bolt on intake, and it works

Keep it mopar! I love the intake, truck pulls thru the middle alot better, no more dead spots

I think if you do alot of research on them, you will find good and bad about both, but i bet you read more bad about hughes than mopar....just my opinion

^^^ That intake 4bbl to 2bbl. They like big valves, turbo/supercharger and cubes 408+, 4500+ rpm range. The people that I know that have tried it say big loss in lower tq, bog monster.
