The OEM Goodyears only lasted 27,000 miles. these are suppose to be 70,000 mile tires. the ride and traction on the Michelins is much better than the OEMs

Michelin all season tires are far superior than anything offered by Goodyear.
I wish they made a mud tire.

Only 27? Sold my 03 with 85k on the original set. They were at 3/32s of tread.

I was at ~40k on mine, but I drive overall fairly gingerly.
The LTX MS/2 is a very highly rated / regarded tire. Nice choice!

Check Michelin's other tire companies for mud tires, I think BFG makes them and they run the same hard compound Michelin does.

Did you ever tow with the Goodyears on? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on towing with the Michelins vs. the Crapyears with respect to sidewall firmness.

I would strongly disagree with that statement. The OE Latitudes on my Jeep were horrible. They were horrible in anything but dry, smooth pavement. They were supposed to have a 65K warranty. After 22k, they were down to 5/32s on all (rotated twice). They were scary in snow. One of them got a gouge in the sidewall, so I replaced all before winter. They can't come close the GY Silent Armors, or other GY models. I'd pick Forteras before them also. Blanket statements like this are silly. Not all GY tires suck. They make some good, and some bad -- just like any other manufacturer (even Michelin). There are over a dozen "Wrangler" models. Yes, many are crappy. There are some that are excellent...same for any mainstream brand. I would agree that the MS/2s are far greater than the GY HPs. I have Silent Armor ProGrades on my truck, and Cooper A/T3s on my Jeep now. I wouldn't trade either for any Michelin.

It's my opinion. You are entitled to yours.
I won't be buying either on my next purchase.

The LTX should do very well for towing since that line was designed for all year round on road performance. If you plan on towing though I wouldn't expect the 100k miles that I have heard people getting out of these. Another option that is very similar and sees about the same milage is Toyo Open Country H/T and I know that tire does very very well towing. I would recommend the 10ply with both of these lines as they see a significant increase in milage out of the tire.

What is the adverse effect on ride quality of the 10 ply vs the standard tires on a 1500 or did you see any difference?

10 plys will have a much stiffer side wall and you will defintly feel them being much stiffer. If you are towing all the time no you probably won't notice it but if you are running empty all the time yeah you might not like that it gets pretty rough on older vehicles I've had.

I'm putting the Michelin's on when my Goodyears wear out. I've got 14K on them and maybe half the tread, probably time to start giving them a little help and light them up.

I had LTX MS2s on my last truck, I can't say enough about how great of a tire that is. You won't be disappointed

I was severely disappointed with Michelin's on my Maxima. One set was summer sports and the other was all season sports. They were both pretty scary in the rain, not cool. Continental DWS' were amazing in comparison.

On the other hand the LTX MS2's on our 4Runner are great. Better than the OE Bridgestones. I have heard they have to be thrown away due to hardening or dry rotting before the tread wears out. It is important to keep the sidewalls, inner and outer, dressed with tire goo to prevent cracking.

I just put a set of 20" LTX MS2 on my 14 because the Wrangler SR-A were at 5/32" at 14000 miles and I am getting ready to go on a trip to Canada. I didn't want to listen to the roar of the SR-A's...
We shall see but the first ride is very quiet and smoooove.
Looks like I sold my Take offs with 14000 miles for $250.00, helps reduce the $1020.00 price tag of the Michelins..

They make an A/T version on the MS/2 called the LTX A, but it wears faster. Its pretty aggressive for a michelin and people on farms seem to like them per the Tire Rack reviews. However it will not keep up with a deep lugged purpose built mud tire.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...=2014&autoModel=1500 4wd&autoModClar=Crew Cab

And for the record the MS2's I think are the highest rated truck tires on the market right now. So I agree with your statement
