Hi I'm new here and I have a question about a white 2003 ram 1500 quad cab laramie with a Hemi. What I want to know is is 168k too high to consider buying? I'm getting a great deal and it is in perfect condition. No rust no dents no nothing. Interior is perfect not worn leather and no stains or tears anywhere. The miles are the only thing holding me back so I need opinions.
Thanks for the inputs!!

Thats starting to creep up there , the thing i always ask myself is how long do i plan on keeping this vehicle? From there i can predict how many miles are gonna be on it and what its value is gonna be when it comes time to trade or sell it. With 168k there is gonna be maintenance issues. alternators, water pumps, etc are gonna start wearing out. Price and your budget are obvious considerations and ultimately its your call . As long as its not rusting out from under you anything can be fixed.

Ehh... It's pretty high.... Do they have receipts for repairs, etc? What is the asking price?

The asking is 9995 from a dealer and I have a trade in so its not that much. I'm mechanically inclined so I can fix most the things myself and I inspected the underside and the is certainly not a rust problem. Also in response to kgbigcountry it's a quad cab 4x4 slt laramie

I think the price is a little high for the mileage

I think I will see if I can get her down on the price... Thinking of asking about 8500 instead of 9995. Thoughts on that price?

Around here, you can get a truck with half the mileage for that price. I'd keep looking because a truck with a lot less miles will show up. Don't even look at dealerships, you're shooting yourself in the foot in terms of price.

Search Craigslist for a 03 ram and compare that to what you're looking at. You can buy a truck from the original owner, not some slick salesman that'll lie to make the sale.

Try and find at least an '05, then you'll get better tuning options right off the bat.

I would never spend 8500-10G on a truck with that many miles

I bought my 2003 2wd SLT Hemi quad cab with 97,000 miles less than a year ago for $8100. I think even 8500 is a bit too much with those miles.

I know a clean truck with no rust would get my attension too, but it is a very used truck. Without knowing it's history, what price would you pay if you had to replace the trans, engine or rear. The suspension may have to be completely rebuilt at some time.
Before I would do anything, have a shop look it over.

I have do disagree with almost everyone on here. I had a 97' 5.9 with 330k on it, pulled bobcats here and there, would still smoke the tires when i sold it. Then I bought a 2000 with 170k on it, drove it till about 270k and traded it in on a 08' with 160k. Though I did take it to get it checked out, make sure there wasnt any recent codes on it that have been cleared. But I can fix most things, and also understand that the Transmission could go any day. Thats the main thing. Make sure you have a couple grand tucked away for the trans! Thats why I love my dodges, all those miles I put on them, and ive never had a major engine issue.

I have alot of friends with high mileage but bought new or use with little miles. The only reason i bought mine with high, the motor. i planned on rebuilding it. Now i two good motors. One with 0 mile, one with about 4000. Looking for a trans to rebuild now.

I think it's high as well. I bought my 02 with 130K miles for $5300. Since then I have replaced U-joints, Brakes, Shocks, and I'm about to fix my A/C but I still say I'm into this truck for not much money. I think if you spend that much money for a truck that might not have had these things replaced your going to have to do it eventually. You can get a better deal by looking around.
