So I need to transport an 8' diameter stock tank. Any advice if I should try and secure this in the bed with the tailgate down (and risk my bank windshield) or just bite the bullet and rent a U-haul trailer.

If I go the trailer route, any advice on horizontal versus vertical? I'm a little wary of horizontal in case I ding cars beside me.

If this is the wrong area of the forum to post this, sorry :)

Rent the trailer and haul it horizontally lengthwise on the trailer. You'll need some straps to cross over the tank in 3 or 4 places, from side to side, and red danger flags on the back.

I hadn't thought about danger flags. Thanks.

Any thoughts on how to tie-down a round object? Even if I do horizontal straps both directions, there's still an opportunity for one to slip.

96" is not a wide load and most trailers have a 102" wheel width so you should ne fine hauling it laying flat.

Not if you strap it properly and make sure the strap end hooks are securely fastened. If you strap it securely it won't roll and all you are trying to do is put enough pressure on it to keep it from rolling or sliding.

Would you put it on a trailer? Is that only 8ft?
Yeah. I’d throw it on a trailer. I think this one is 10’ As long as it’s supported so it don’t cause the seams to break and leak. My plan was to load it in back of truck. Not gonna happen we rolled it lol. Luckily only a few hundred feet

If it was me, run a flatbed trailer with no sides, and run it horizontal flat. To risky vertical if wind catches it. But as someone else mentioned, check your laws about a wide load. Better to be safe than sorry.
