New Ram Mods

I've been working on my new 2016 RAM 1500 Express Regular Cab since I brought it home September 10th. It has that great powerful Hemi 5.7 and the eight speed auto trans. Being a very basic truck, it had the upgraded interior but no power package, the RA2 UConnect 5.0 radio, and the 20" chrome wheels as the only options. As such it stickered at $32615. I got it for $22,540. I felt I had room to improve this Flame Red beauty.

I've added Westin running boards, BakFlip 4pc folding tonneau cover, SureGrip differential, Bed Mat, Class IV tow hitch, replaced the overhead console with a new one that added Homelink, added new lighted vanity mirrors, Installed the OEM Park View back up camera, added a Viper alarm and power door locks with door switches added to each door panel, and finally upgraded the entertainment system to the RA4 (VP4) UConnect 8.4 Navigation from a 2016 with the new bezel for the radio and the manual climate controls and separate volume control button. Also added a leather steering wheel and the audio buttons. All factory stuff except the alarm system.

I have an upgraded cluster to add when I hit the right mileage to make the swap. I did find a shop in Phoenix that would match mileage. However, that is a $200 hit to an already worn budget!

I must give a big thanks to the many posts on this fine site that I studied at length before making some of these changes.

The newer trucks don't store the mileage in the cluster anymore. It's stored in the BCM, so you can swap out whenever & still have the correct mileage displayed.

Sweet deal. Find some factory leather take offs for cheap, and upgrade to LED tails and Projectors... no one would ever know it was an Express!

That's a real beauty--as much as I love yellow, red is right there withit--heh heh, my Ranger's red-

I'm not sure what you mean, when you guys say the mileage isn't shown in the cluster--mine shows the mileage/miles left on the tank and also has, on the EVIC--trip A/B for specific trip

Also shows gas mileage/outside temps and something else, I forget-

Cockpit like an F-18 !

I don't think that's accurate. Lots of people have been swapping the small clusters for premium ones and still have to correct the mileage. The mileage is stored in the bcm but pretty sure the gauges store the info as well.

13 - 16 the milage is stored in two places and one of which is in the cluster .
You still have to get the milage changed to match your old cluster or just sneak up on it and install your new 7" premium cluster.

You've done almost everything I've done to my 14 QC 4X4 Too funny !
I've done a few other things . So far my favorite mods are the RA4 8.4NA RADIO & BACKUP CAM !

Other mods I've done or in progress

Cabin air filter ( which I think the 16s have ?
Footwell lighting
Bed lighting
Under hood lamp
Red Billet under the hood dress up kit
Red caliper covers (I have , not installed yet)
Carven Exhaust ordered & in route for next week
LED tail lights
Black A- Pillars (will install shortly)maybe today ?
Tailgate assist
Shorty antenna
Oil Catch can
Factory tow hooks
+2.8" Bilsteins 5100 level
Wadestar blindspot mirrors
Premium cluster (future mod)
6 " BDS lift , wheels & 37" tires are in my future !



Well more than a few more items , it's an addiction for sure

It still has to be reflashed It's not gonna just display your current info

Great mods!! I forgot to mention that I did the underhood light too. Great working, yet easy one to accomplish.

Also a BIG THANKS for the additional information on the cluster mileage. I'll go back to just waiting for the mileages to sync, then install.

Brings up a question I've had. Just how well does that shorty antenna work? I would love to change mine out if I knew the FM and FM HD would work well.

Power folding Mirrors

Has anyone added power mirrors? I've been thinking hard about this as this is the one ****** I'd like to improve. I park my truck in the one car stall in my garage as it's the deepest. Meaning I have to get out and fold in the passenger side mirror. The driver's side is not a big problem.
