Removing Ram on Tailgate

I was just wondering if anyone has had a price quote on removing the Ram and having the proper body work done to fill it in and a repaint. I had a local shop quote $822 (Springfield, MO). Wanting to make sure I don't get screwed.

I'm thinking of getting another tailgate if I can find one used at a decent price. Then I will try my hand at it myself and still have the original one to put back if I want.

I thought that was pretty steep! I can buy a brand new tailgate from them for $500. Guess I will keep looking.
