I'm searching Ram's website of dealer inventory. I'm looking for a '16 2500 Laramie CC 6.4. And in a 400 mile radius, I cannot find one with 4.10 gears. I know the 3.73 is part of the quick-order package, but why are there ZERO out there with 4.10? Am I missing something? It's gonna force me to order one, which will likely increase my price...ugh

The main reason you will find that is the majority of buyers do not know/ care what gear ratio it is (yes- even HD buyers fall into that category) and the 6.4's on the lot are more of a token. They move the diesels. That is the bulk of the HD sales. The majority of the gas job sales are for fleet buyers and they want them for duty cycle rather than towing capacity. Mix into that the purchaser for the dealerships likely has NO clue what the change from 3.73 to 4.10 even does- and there you have your answer.

The upper trims like Laramies are the "Bosses truck" so not necessarily the workhorse type that will be in the mud pits daily or toting around a flat deck with a skidsteer and 1000lbs of scrap metal and building supplies bouncing around the bed. Basically they are just there because they have to have a certain number of that engine package on the lot (I assume) and there is more profit in a nicely trimmed up truck than a white, stripped out contractors truck.

If you find one you like with 3.73 and it's going to save you cash, I'd say jump on it and regear if you need it or just accept it unless you NEED that extra few thousand towing capacity. I have 3.73s with no complaints. Lots of power, jumps pretty good for a big girl.

Why are you set on 4:10"s? Save the money get the 373"s and with the Money you saved get 456" installed. Just my thoughts. Also why are u limited to 400 miles? Dennis Dillion in Bosie Idaho - I bet they will have ur truck and at a price u can't beat.. you just got to bite off 100$ plane ticket there, and maybe one night in a hotel room, then you get to break the truck in on the beautiful drive home... Where is home??

Thanks for the info--SW Missouri is home base. Do I NEED 4.10's? No--this is primarily gonna be my daily driver--and I'm not a contractor. But I'll probably buy a TT and the 4.10 (as I'm sure you know) is rated for 3k more towing. I understand it's also got a little better punch off the line (correct me please if I'm wrong). I figure--might as well get as much seat-of-the-pants fun lol.

Can't argue that logic :)

Am in nearly the same boat as you.

Can't find a 3500 6.4 Tradesman with 4.10s anywhere.
I need the extra tow capacity and want the gasser so I can pick up the Lifetime MaxCare.
I ordered my last one, guess if I make the switch, I will have to order the next.

Ordering was kind of nice, was able to negotiate down to price that was same % off as ones on the lot and got EXACTLY the things that I wanted, and not the stuff that I didn't.

Yep.... same boat here. I looked and looked and the 4.10 was no where to be found. Especially, not with anything close to the type of truck or options I wanted. I just ended up taking the 3.73 on a truck on the lot and saved the $$ from ordering. If I ever need the extra 3K towing capacity I could re-gear and probably be money ahead of what I would have paid to order.

After owning and towing with the truck for almost 2 years (8500# travel trailer) I'm thinking if I wanted to tow that much I'd probably go back to a diesel anyway. It's a fine truck and does a good job with what I have now. Towing 11/12K with a gas truck is just asking a lot IMO.

6.4l and 3.73

This fall we used our 2015 6.4l with 3.73 to haul our Work and Play 30fbw with a quad and SxS into the bighorns. GCVW 18,500.

Be careful, people get flamed for saying such things.

How dare you !!! ;) if I was towing even 5-6k on a regular basis I would buy the diesel lol. Some days I wish I would of sacrificed trim lvl for a diesel.. but we all have that nagging what if voice in the back of our head.

35 foot weighing in at about 10000. Pulls it like a dream (I'll give you that I'm at sea level and the only passes I see top out at around 3500 feet). The reason I DIDN'T go with a Cummins though is the stats were comparable and the dealership gave me lifetime bumper to bumper on the 6.4. They said they wouldn't do it on the Cummins.

That said the dealers tend to be ill informed. They told me my 2500 didn't have 4.10. I asked them to print off the build sheet and turns out the guy was wrong.

When I ordered my truck through Dennis Dillon I got 4:10s. When I picked it up back in May they had over 200 2500 rams sitting in their back lot as stock and some ordered trucks. When I was talking to the fleet manager and my sales guy doing paperwork he looked at my build sheet and said something to the effect of "ohhh, you got 4:10 gears. Seems like all the customers who order 2500s are going with 4:10." He told me most of the trucks he ordered for stock are 3:73 and that he should probably start ordering more with 4:10s.

Honestly, I don't think these guys really don't pay attention to the gears when ordering and what a lot of buyers want. Old/bad habits I assume.

Some of it is that they just don't have a clue, but some of it is that they just don't understand that with two overdrive gears these things will pull some really short rear gears and still not wind to the moon and wreck MPG any worse than it already is. I have 4.10s and would have gladly ordered it with 4.30s if they offered it.

On Edit: That also assumes that the trans is up to the task.

They order whatever will move and if they are selling trucks with 3.73 gears left and right, then that is what they will re-order. Until more people like yourself stop and insist for 4.10's, then that gear set is always going to be in the minority stocked on a lot.

Hold out for the 2500 6.4 4.10s. Get what you want. Tradesman package was ok when I had the 2500. I needed a little more amenities, thus the 6.4 dually Laramie.

Hindsight, should have kept the 2500 Tradesman and just upgraded the radio to 8.4xx, if possible.

I wouldnt even consider a 3.37 truck. I strongly disagree with some of the earlier posts. There are ZERO drawbacks to getting a 4.10, and ZERO reason to get a 3.73 instead. And I surely wouldnt pay 2500+ to have a truck regeared when I can get the factory option for basically free. UNLESS you wanted more gear, because of a lift/level/trailer whatever. But 4.10s would handle 35s just fine, assuming you werent towing heavy.

Get the 4.10 truck. Dont settle.

if people stopped buying them, they would stop selling them. :)

And I personally think the difference between 373 and 410 is extremely minimum... Go drive both and see if u can " tell the difference" The torque management is going to hold both trucks back the same. Sure 410"s will help more with a heavy load, but barely noticeably compared to 373"s. If I was to order a truck I would order with 410"s.. but I would still be contemplating going to 456. Just my opinion- everyone uses their truck to their liking.
