I have a 2006 4x4 Mega Cab 1500 with a 5.7 with 160k miles. I spun a rod bearing last week.

I am curious if it is worth it to drop a rebuilt motor in it. It has extensive hail damage from a few years back and I would not be able to sell it for anything other than scrap.

Just curious about what the general consensus is.

Thanks for you opinions.

Scrap is pretty much worthless now-days, definitely wouldn't go that route.

Rebuild. Judging by where you live, you will prob get hail damage again. Except this time, on a new/ slightly new truck.

The rest of the truck is holding up OK. The interior has some stains but no tears. The transmission has about 12k miles.

If I did rebuild it I would probably put a lift on it and get some 35s. My ol lady is giving me some grief because we don't have a lot of extra space around the house to keep an extra vehicle.

I am in the Dallas area so I might just Craigslist it and see what kind of feedback I get there.

I am away from the house until Friday but will put some pics up then.

I agree with War Wagon. You can get a lot of motor these days by buying a crate motor. I've never done a Hemi, but I've done a few over the last 10 years and I am shocked at how much horse you can get in a crate.

Not to mention, you'll sound cool saying, "Yeah, so I'm rebuilding my MEGACAB". That's not something you hear everyday.

Throw a motor in and call it a day I'd be $$$$$$ ahead if I had just got an 06 and not HAD to have the latest and greatest.....
