Unreal... so there I was... sitting in traffic, the car in front of me moves up about 20 ft so I move up about 20 ft and all of the sudden I get slammed and rear ended. Hard. The dude hit my truck so hard that change in the tray above the radio flew in the air all over my truck. I got out and the first thing I said was "Are you ******* kidding me???" Lol I was SO pissed. I followed that up with "what the **** why did you do thst?" It was at that time I realized it was a 65yr old dude and I started to calm down but man was I hyped. I eventually cooled off and started talking to the guy. Right off the bat he admitted he hit me, and said he saw me moving up and he blinked and the next thing he knew he had hit me. I honestly think he was texting but I have/had no proof.

Pictures....

So from the outside, it looks like minimal damage to my truck. Just a new bumper. But I'm worried because A. The guy who hit me was in a Benz and his car was wrecked... I mean wrecked!!! Antifreeze everywhere, hissing, hood/fenders/bumper/headlights all broken and smashed on his car. Most of the force of his vehicle hit my tow hitch (thank god... maybe?) so I'm worried that the force of the hit transfered from the tow hitch and went to my frame. I'm hoping there is no damage to my frame or the bed is knocked out of alignment or something is out of alignment like my drive train or bed etc. The truck seems to be driving normally although the trans did feel like it is shifting harder but that could be a crazy-mental-physcological thing just in my head lol. Either way, the shop I bring it to for an appraisal better check the frame, bed alignment, drive train and anything else possibly affected.

As for me, my neck is sore and I have a massive migraine. I'm heading to the hospital in a few minutes, the accident was around 4:30pm and I wasn't hurting immedietly afterwards but now, 5 hours later, I definetly have some sort of neck issues and my head is pounding.

Overall this sucks. I haven't had an accident since I was 18 in 2004 BUT, It could have been way worse. My truck "looks ok" but I won't know the true damage until I get it looked at. As for the other guy, I knew right off the bat his car was totaled, no doubt in my mind. And since he was at fault his insurance should cover my damages and medical bills.

I just bought this truck 3 months ago :-( I haven't even made my 3rd payment yet. And now the trucks value (CarFax) just dropped hard. Now I've got a truck I'm paying for that just dropped in resale value by atleast 25-30%. I am NOT happy about that at all.

P.S. The cop who showed up said the other guy was totally at fault. The cop loved my truck, he said he had just bought a new Ram 2 days earlier and was asking questions about some of my mods and where I got them.

That sucks. I was so pissed when I got backed into I could barely talk. I wanted to kill the guy and I think he could tell I wanted to. Hopefully it's just the bumper. He hit the strongest part of your truck. They front of his car is designed to crumple to avoid injury.

Unless there frame damage the Carfax thing won't hurt you. Not with a fender bender. Replaced bumper I would still buy it. Personally minor accidents won't effect your value. If it come up with frame damage that would hurt your value but by the looks and the sound I would say it's new bumper and brackets. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks guys... I just got to the hospital now and I'm in the waiting room. Most likely will get a cat scan or an MRI I forget which one is for head injuries but either way I'm sure I'll be here til late tomorrow morning.

I'm just so stressed and sad about my truck. I try so hard to keep it clean and protect it, just for someone else to damage it. If it was my fault I wouldn't be as mad as I'm the idiot who hit something but since this wasn't my fault and I had no way to prevent it from happening it's got me even more mad and stressed.

I dunno... I'm just super mad right now. It'll go away in a day or two. Hopefully my neck and head are ok. I've got double vision a couple times while driving earlier and headlights are burning my eyes. I feel nauseous and sick like I'm gonna vomit.

Anyways I guess I'm in the market for a new bumper.

Double vision and being nauseous are typical with concussions. Typically MRI's are used for head but cat scans can be used also. Just remember to take car of yourself your truck as nice as it is, is just that a truck and it can be replaced but you or anyone else can't be.

+1. Whether the truck is just a new bumper, or even if it was completely totalled, his insurance would get you a new truck. You, on the other hand, if totalled, cannot be replaced. Take care of yourself first and foremost. Stressing about a physical/replaceable object isn't going to help.

I feel a little hypocritical telling you that, though, haha. When I had my accident, I stressed out over the truck and drove my insurance, the other guy's insurance, and my body shop crazy. I don't think any of them ever want to hear from me again.

Try and take it easy. You most likely have, at minimum, a whip lash type injury, which can give you concussion like symptoms. You may have a full blown concussion, as others have suggested. A sudden hit from behind like that can really throw your brain around inside your skull. Let the doctors, specialists, and nurses do their work, and save every single receipt for anything you pay them. His insurance should reimburse you for EVERYTHING. They also usually throw in some additional money for pain and suffering, but if you still don't feel 100%, don't sign ANYTHING from any insurance companies without first consulting a good attorney. I am not telling you to be one of those guys that sues over everything, but know your rights, and make an informed decision. You don't want to have medical expenses a year down the road, and find you've already signed a settlement/agreement with their insurance.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Prayers man. Been there more than once. People just can't drive.

As far as the CT/MRI yes, not just b/c of your neck but also to check for cranial hemorrhaging. Depending on how old you are maybe also have a spinal done if you get any tingling, pins and needles, etc anywhere on your head/face, body, or down through your feet.

Best wishes for a quick recovery. From the pics it looks like your truck will be fine. Bummer that the guy wasn't paying attention but it sounds like he got the short end of the stick.

Dude, sorry to hear about that man. Hope you feel better soon. Don't stress about your truck. She's tough and can take it.

That rear damage seems very minor. Yes ensure the truck gets put on a frame machine and is checked. If the hitch took the hit, require that it be replaced for safety reasons. Your carfax won't take a big hit for a minor hit like that. I would not think.

Since your not at fault clearly, in pa you can get diminution in value from the adverse parties liability coverage. It may not be much on a minor hit, but worth asking for. Take care of your health first. Don't sign any releases until your sure all is addressed. Good luck

Only time you'd need to worry about diminished value would be in the instance where the damage is severe or causes you to have a salvage title. Something minor like that, won't effect the value at all. I used to have a 2006 Dodge Dakota, I got into an accident with it back in 2008 and it had to have a new hood, passenger side fender, passenger side headlight, new front bumper, new bumper mounts, new grille, new grille mount, new radiator, fan, water pump, etc...

Didn't effect the value of the vehicle at all.

Glad you're alright. These things happen. Sucks though!

My wife was hit in similar fashion in her 2005 Durango before we traded it. Dude hit the hitch square. Bumper cracked and was scratched a bit but that's it. Dudes car was taken off in a flatbed.

These truck will take a lot! Don't worry about it.
