Alright folks. I just finished changing my inner and outer tie rod ends, and upper/lower ball joints. I changed all this because of a knocking sound coming from the steering when taking off and coming to a stop. There's no real play in the steering and no wobble. Just a slight knock when I take off and stop. Almost like something is sliding back and forth. Could this be the steering gearbox shaft going out? Or possibly the pitman arm going bad? I'm really out of options and don't know what to change next. Thanks in advance for any input and advice.

Long shot - check motor mount bolts to engine block. I just discovered mine were hand tight and working their way out.

Just go home. I'll give it a minute to cool off. I never thought of the motor mount.

Ok motor mounts are tight, I'll have to check the shocks after work. This really has me stumped. Kinda scary. I just can't find the source of this sound.

Intermediate steering shaft? I had an 01 truck that had the same concern and the steering shaft fixed it.

How would I troubleshoot something like that?

Check leaf-spring bushing and control-arm bushings.

Check the drive shaft also. Grab it and turn it. I work on military trucks and a lot of time the ujoints on the drive shaft are bad. So when you turn it if theu are bad you will hear/feel a clank.

Hi KillrB,

Nice B in your pic. Had one bad to the bone.

And now back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Hi Op,
Have you checked the tranny mount? Had issues similar thought it was the front end turned out to be the tranny mount.

Was the tranny mounts actually. Bottomed out pretty hard a week or so ago and they just started making noise. Got it taken care of though
