Yeah, I've been very conscious of it, and I know it don't take much movement at all, in fact the was the first time it had done it in along time, whether it's me just being conscious of it or what, I don't know.

Sometimes I even wandered if it was a lifter at all, maybe fuel injector.

Mine has never done this ???
Not sure if this matters , but everytime I start my truck I religiously let the high idel come down to a normal idle of 750rmp or less ...I do sometimes just move it a few feet or just out of the shop ...I've never experienced the tick by restarting after a short move . .lucky I guess ?

I don't know, mine don't do it for a long time and then it's like screw you, I'm gonna tic this time. It's only a couple of seconds though. Sometimes I think it maybe depends on what oil filter you're running, seemed to be the worst when I had the FA on it. I guess just need to give it a female name.

Mine hasn't done it in a long time since I've figured out how to prevent it but it would do it with hot or cold oil if I put it in the right situation like clockwork

In my opinion it's way too loud to be injectors it's definitely lifters starved of oil

Ramnewbie,

I have one fram ultra left sitting in my basement that I need to use up and after that I'm either going to royal purple or Amsoil filters. But to be honest I'd be nervous to try it even with a different filter.

Have you atempted to make it happen with a filter other than the fram ultra and it would not do it? Because its a different filter..

Well, I've never tried to make it happen, it just does, I've tried not to make it happen. Right now I've got an Amsoil filter on it, which from all outward appearances is a reskined Mobil 1 filter. The last time it did it was when I changed oil the last time and the old filter was OE. Now it's never done it again since with the Amsoil filter, but I'm not going to intentionally try to get it to do it either.

From a lot of the videos online that Cut the filters open the Amsoil filter always seem to be identical to royal purple

For me it was definitely not injectors because I could hear them in addition to the ticking. Mine was a random tick not a rythmic tick. Wish I had the time at that point to take a video...

With the FA i could depend on it doing it like clock work, OE was better, but still had to be consious to move it or try to avoid it making the tic.

Yeah, that's what I thought too until Burla said the RP had 8 inlet holes, the Amsoil and Mobil1 both only have 6. I compared the Amsoil and Mobil 1 side by side and other than the colour of the can they looked to be identical. Now that's just what I could see from the outside.

Does anyone that has their MDS permantly tuned off have this issue? I'd even considered this as being part of the problem.

2014 5.7 Ram 1500 here with MDS turned off for 2 years with HF tune.
Mobile 1 filter & 10w-30 oil, no ticks before or after MDS mod.
30,000 miles in those 2 years, 36,000 miles when purchased for a total of 63,000.
Looked like original owner was having dealer change out filter & oil on the 1st 36,000.

Just curious, what are you getting for mileage with MDS disabled?

Here's a uoa of my xsmn , short run with Redline C+ & the Mag-Hyteck extra capacity pan with drain plug .

The reason for the short run of Redline was to continue to flush out the Factory Fill & to get some metals out as well ....4900ae65d45919d56b501a4852f38a80.jpg

You left the filters in correct ?

Edit. I mean you did not change them. you used the same filters and just change the fluid.

Update, looks like those hero fire fighters turned the corner, zero buildings lost last night, can't even fathom that. Looks like one of them died an hour ago, details still coming in on that, looks like an accident with his truck. How close did we come yo losing the home? 350 square miles and counting burned, 2 to 3 miles from our door and you see this property not defensible. We have to move all of our stuff back, lol. We thought we were done for. I will be super busy for a while, but part of that is getting these fluids in my truck when I get a chance and not storing them in my garage like an idiot. My procrastination this summer cost me and one family that could have had a cheap rental dearly. So gonna concentrate and **** I need to do. I may get my uoa off a little early, it wont be apples to apples anyway, last time I changed the filter and topped off half way through, this time I didn't.

Yes , I changed the filters when I installed the pan , not at this drain and refill . I plan on doing another drain n refill in the spring , then I'll drop the pan and change filters again at 100,000 miles which should be about 4.5 yrs ...
