That's more than likely exactly what it is with the hydraulic lifters. If I have to move it a short distance I'll usually rev it up to about 2500 before I kill it and that helps an lot on the next start.

I have the same "issue"....loud ticking for a couple seconds if I just move the truck over, etc.

But what I dont understand is why that loud ticking will NOT occur if I "just move the truck over" but then not start it again for a while (i.e. overnight). It starts normal after waiting that long...no loud ticking.

If it were the lifters not getting filled up, would they not tick at *every* next startup, regardless of "soak" time?

As far as filters go - if the RP/Amsoil/Fram Ultra world ended tomorrow, I think I would be headed to the SRT filter. I managed to get 2 of the 20-820 yesterday, 13 each from pep boys.

You are soooooo right, I’m seriously debating, putting mine all back to stock and going to something else. The wife and I have talked about it a lot recently.

LoL Subaru Crosstrek, still trying to work the buying a house thing, and I’m working on selling the Altima, so if I got rid of the truck I would have to sacrifice on the vehicle front till we got into a house. But I still need something I can make it through all seasons to pick up my kids on South Dakota.

If I bought a Colorado it would be a ZR2 with the baby Duramax and I would delete it as soon as I got home.

Great video Hammer! All the more reason to keep that RFE trans as cool as possible.

ALL vehicles have their weaknesses and quirks. The fact that we're discovering them on these trucks is a good thing because we can find ways to prolong and possibly counteract the weaknesses.

Only thing you can do to avoid that is build an old truck to use as a daily. However finding an older truck up here in the rust belt that isn't rotted to **** is next to impossible tho...

I agree with 395.

The grass is always greener, as they say. Thinking Furd or GM got it much more right than FCA is kinda funny.

I think most of the stuff we find "weak" is a result of cost cutting, and to think GM and frud didn't cost cut as much or more than FCA is funny.

I heard a rumor about the new Ranger so I had to look it up. It’s better than what I was told but it’s still ridiculous that you have to partially pull the wheel well liner just change the oil.

I can see it now...the automakers will put a big sticker on top of the engine that reads "WARRANTY VOID IF OPENED" just like the electronics companies have been doing for years!

I have a friend that just bought a Ducati. Warranty is void if he does any of his own maintenance.

Wow...

Yeah. He got it in Detroit and he lives about an hour away. I think he said Detroit was either the only dealer or the closest dealer in Michigan.

You should see the cost of labor at a Ducati dealer. Makes me want to become a Ducati mechanic.

Some special ******* engine that produces a **** ton of power for its displacement but needs a valve adjustment fairly often.

Ducati's "desmodromic" valve system. The engine's valves are opened AND closed by cam followers. There is only a very weak valve spring on those. Valve lash is set by hand lapping the cam followers. The older two valve Desmo engines could have the valve clearances set relatively easily. The newer 4-valve Desmo engines require the heads to be pulled from the cylinders and work done, removing and hand lapping all of the followers, on a bench for each head. Labor adds up as the engines are now water cooled.

It's a unique system where high rpm valve float is virtually impossible. Allows for some fairly radical cam profiles which produce a lot of power for essentially a 1000cc V-twin. I have to say tho, the 90 degree V of the Ducati engine has perfect primary balance, and listening to one with a good exhaust on it sounds like a V-8 with a race cam; intoxicating. Nothing close to the potato-potato sound from a Harley.

So with the RP 20-820 possibly going away, what is your guys opinion to be the next best oil filter, sounds like there could be a possibility it come back as rebranded though also.

I think if I didn’t have any RP20-820 filters I would use a Fram ultra or a WIX XP with confidence.

But I’m not sure what’s going on with Fram filters right now with the change of ownership.
