I'm sure this has been asked numerous times but I enjoy opinions. I've a got 2012 ram that does everything I need but I keep looking at diesels. Something about them keeps attracting me. I know I'd lose my butt on trading but I'm pretty sure one day I'll have me a cummins. Thinking I should stop the mods and just hold off until I get that great cummins motor. Opinions ?
Here is a little backstory for me. Before I bought the ram, I was contemplating buying a Hummer H1. For around $50K I could get a pretty nice 2000 or so model year truck and I know my way around Hummers pretty well. Now nobody in this world "needs" an H1, there are a nice to have, but that's about it. Then I just sat and thought about it a bit more and the thought of buying an almost 12 year old truck for $50K just didn't sit well with me no matter what the specs. The truck would end up sitting and not getting driven and what I really wanted was something I could drive.
I stumbled across the ram by accident. In fact, I have always liked ram trucks because I felt that from the outside they are the most stylish looking. The only experience I had was looking from the outside on the road, never sitting in one.
In the end, could I have gotten by with a Ram 1500 longhorn with a Hemi? Sure, but why I would want to trade in a vehicle that was worth just as much as the vehicle I was buying. If I'm trading in why not trade up? It doesn't matter to me if the most the truck hauls is firewood or christmas presents
. It took the place of another need that I questioned myself on before I made the buy. I could have made the same argument about buying my first Hummer 7 years ago. It wasn't necessary but it sure was fun to drive
. That's how I feel about the ram. It's my toy and I'm playing with it now lol.
