Thought I read on here somewhere that running the higher tire pressure with a E rated tire will make the TPMS sensor go off.

Can anybody confirm or deny this who is running a E rated tire and pressures of 65-80 psi.

I want to go with an e rated tire but don't want the hassles of the TPMS being on all the time.

Thanks,

why do you have to run 65 to 80 psi?

Guess I don't I was just looking at the rec PSI's for the tires I am considering. I know with the heavy duty tires you can run a much higher pressure for load carrying but your right I would not need to. Been awhile since I had e rated on my previous 2500 diesel. I now want to put some e rated on my 1500.

you can absolutely run them on your 1500 with no issues. My tires are e rated and i run about 42 in the front and 38 in the rear

The absolute lowest you want to go is 38, I recommend running 40-50 psi depending in the roads you drive etc. the max pressure on the tires show the max weight that those tires can handle at the max pressure.

From what I understand, I think the TPMS may only set off a low level alarm. I'm not really sure they if they trip on high pressure?

But on a load range e tire that's running too low for it, it's like running 25 psi in a passenger tire

35psi is 35psi whether it's in a bike tire or an LT tire.
Put the load range E tires if you want and run 35-40psi. No need for more.

I used to work at discount tire... An LT tire with a max pressure of 80 yes it can hold 35 psi no problem, but it has a higher chance of tire failure because of the weight of the tire and composition, you can put 35 psi in a passenger tire and LT tire and it'll be the same pressure, but the tires are made different and need a minimum amount of air in them to run safely

I still work at Discount Tire.
I can guarantee you will not hurt an E rated tire by running 35-40psi in it unless you load the hell out of your truck.

I bought my first set of E rated Terras from Discount Tire and they set the psi at 35 and I ran them for 50k miles, no issues. I'm on my second set of the same tires, and still running 35psi.

x2. I believe it just triggers on low pressure.

All I'm saying is is that in all my training, I have always been told that in a load range e tire, to put at least 40 psi in a half ton truck, that's what I put in and never once had a problem

Just put a set of 275/65/20 Terra Grapplers on my dads 2011. Set them at 40psi and I know he'll be good to tow anything that truck will handle.

Which store you work at?

I'm in San Marcos.
What's the max?
If they're E rated they'll be 80 max.
