I just bought a 2017 1500. When I took delivery I noticed some trash in the paint. The dealer promised they would make it right. I took it back and after 10 days I got the truck back and there is still a lot of trash.

Is there any precident for demanding a new vehicle? I don't want a 45000 dollar repainted truck.

I know what he's talking about. This has been complained about for years with the terrible paint quality of the trucks coming out of the dated Warren Plant paint booth. There's dust, etc. in the paint....either the paint or the clear or both. My 2014 had it and my 2016 also has it. It is disappointing and it's crap like that Chrysler get poor quality ratings.

Would this be why the door sills in my 2013 1500 were wore down to bare metal in under a year? I hope it doesn't happen on my new 2500!

Nope. If the paint really is as bad as you say your options are limited to working with the dealership and having their shop refinish the area. What exactly is trash in the paint? Dust, orange peel? How many areas are affected?

Maybe contact RAM customer service. I think you will have to go above the dealer on this.

I had the same issue when I bought my 2013. Dirt in the paint on the side of the box. Dealer repainted the entire side of the box.

Then again with my 2017. When the 4X4 badge was removed from the tailgate I found a huge chunk of dirt in the paint which was hidden by the badge. The dealer repainted the tailgate.

if you saw it before delivery, should have refused the truck. the dealer will then either fix to your satisfaction, reduce the price so you can have it fixed or get you a different truck.

Without knowing what the poster considers "trash" to be, answers are nothing more then speculation.

2014 here ... same thing. Trash = dust/dirt/grit in paint during either the base coat or clear coat. Turns up looking like there is a piece of sand in the paint. Should be unheard of these days ... especially on a $50k plus truck.

Yeah, over the years when someone has talked about "trash" in their paint, this is always what it meant. Lets just hope that when the 5th generation Ram is made in the renovated plant, they have a much better paint booth.

Pieces of foreign material in either the base or clear coat. Particles clearly in and under the finished paint.
