I towed a small u-haul yesterday. We had to move furniture 160 miles round trip. Surprisingly, the truck got 11mpg and pretty much the whole tank of gas between the trip and picking up/dropping off said trailer. It was only a 5x12 enclosed. It didn't weigh much, as I could move the trailer around one-handed.

For reference. I drove from Long Island NY to Florida and back in 3 days. I averaged 13 mpg with my 3.92 gears towing a u-haul car trailer and a Lexus GS350 on the way down and a ‘85 380 Mercedes Benz on the way back.

I was not easy at all on the pedal as I did 2,200 mile in 53 hours alone (14 hours of rest in between).

These trucks are impressive.

I'm wondering if the enclosed trailer created more drag than an open trailer would have, thus accounting for my crappy mileage. I just filled up, and it was 12.0mpg hand calc'd. I'm also on 3.21 gear, not 3.92

I pulled this back from the east coast 1400 miles and got hand calculated 13.5 to 14.2 miles per gallon.
6x12 plus the bed and back seat were loaded down as well, I also had TuffTruck coils rated 50% over stock so you know it was loaded..lol

I've thought the same thing. My 6x12 hauling my bike KILLS my mileage.

It does because the wind comes off the roof and slams into the front wall of the trailer. That’s why you see a lot of GMC and Ram 3500s and Ford F350s have that spoiler on the roof of their truck. It causes the wind to go up and over the trailer

Stared at my truck after seeing the 2019 Ram 1500 announcement videos and screen shots and decided to resume my current list of mods. Next up, Recon bedlights, aftermarket tailgate latch backup camera, and (when it warms up) installing my ARH headers.

Hell yeah me too, I’m still having fun with this one.
